C|Net News - Intel to skip Vista Upgrade "Following a report Monday on the Inquirer, the New York Times reported Wednesday that Intel's IT department "found no compelling case" for upgrading. Ouch."

Ouch is right, having one of your long term partners come out and say thanks but no thanks like that isn't good for the old marketing department. Does make me wonder if there is more to the story though.

I'm probably the biggest complainer when it comes to Vista. I've fought with it since last October. Finally, HP, the maker of my (8 months ago) new computer, said to send it back for a new processor. I may have been been blaming Vista and maybe it was HP all the time......I sure hope so.

We have 2 new laptops with Vista and I'm very sure you will find that the problem was your processor, as we have had absolutely NO major problems with ours. There have been a couple of very minor glitches when installing a program, but it never failed to install and ALL of our older programs from our XP OS have installed and are working fine.

Vista certainly didn't live up to the hype but it certainly hasn't lived up to all the bashing either. It was a mediocre upgrade that most people could care less if they install or not. Regardless whether you install it or not isn't going to make a huge difference in your experience so the bashing isn't necessary.

I have had vista on my one year old HP laptop and have had no problems at all.I kind of like it. Works as good if not better than my XP on my desk top.

Part of the decision to upgrade to Vista is the requirement to buy computers capable of running it. In some cases new software might be needed. So the cost benefit of going to Vista goes beyond the merits of Vista.

Vista is one of the best things Microsoft has ever done.

For Apple Macintosh sales, that is!

Here here!

I think several things have hurt Vista. First off the delayed drivers from a lot of hardware vendors made adoption frustrating for many people. Coupled with a completely changed UI and that annoying security system, it's enough to drive many over the edge. People who were used to tinkering with previous systems find that many things are hidden behind 3 layers of wizards.

This was also complicated by the devious marketing of many low-cost PC's as "Vista Ready" while they did not have enough Ram to handle it fully. I wouldn't run less than 2GB in any machine these days, Mac or PC; but many tried to run Vista on 512MB.

While I'm not a fan, in fact just the opposite; I think Vista is probably a step in the right direction. We'll see how this all plays out.
