does anyone have a favorite campground in NC you would like to share with us. We live close to Mt. Airy and wanted to see where others camp in NC. We have kids and need activities or at least a swimming pool...

Just starting ourselves, and will be interested in the responses
We have a KOA here in Wilmington....fairly nice, and about 3-4 miles from the beach. It has a medium size pool, and there are a few things to do in town....Battleship North Carolina, Aquarium @ Fort Fisher, the beaches, Plantations, etc.
I've heard nothing but good replies from FourPaws Kingdon CG, up near Charlotte, but it's for the dogs....and they aren't quite as keen on kids.
The outer banks have some nice ones too.....or so I've heard.
And of course, there are places up in the mountains......which is why NC is such a great state!!
Good luck, happy camping

Do you know about Fairystone St Park in VA? It would be a short drive for you. Located near Bassett on Philpott Lake. Has a great lake with a toy in water area (if you have smaller kids) & beach.
Further down the same road is Goose Point. Have only driven thru but gets good reviews.
Also Stone Mtn. (NC) has added a new camping section with electric and a very nice bathhouse.
Enjoy!

We have stayed at the Wilmington NC KOA, and really enjoyed ourselves. At the time our kids were 4 1/2 and 1 1/2, and they both enjoyed the playground and pool. There is plenty in the area to keep the kids amused w/o having to spend an arm and a leg. The railroad museum was great. Enjoy yourselves.

Mountain Stream RV Park is our favorite in NC but they do not have a pool -- not even a playground. They do have a fabulous stream that runs behind 2/3rds of the sites...that you can fish in and they have a potluck every Saturday night. Couple times a year they have special weekends with kid activities. Entertainment list.
Goose Point COE in Bassett, VA is another favorite... very remote. Be sure you have your groceries before setting up camp -- closest grocery is 15 miles away. They have a beach and playground. Loop C is the one you want. You can see some pics at this link. Just click on pic to enlarge.

We like jordan lake state park, KOA in Boone, and the one we go too most often is Travel Resorts outside of southern pines. They have planned activites, put put, basketball, playgournd, pool, and hot tub.4
