OK, couple of questions on your latest itinerary Jim.

On Day 3 would it be worthwhile stopping at Lone Pine or should we give it a push all the way to Lee Vining? Maybe could use the time elsewhere?

On the issue of Lake Tahoe. Would forgoing Lake Tahoe and making it to Moab, UT and that area be better or is not?

Yes you can easily by pass Lone Pine and go straight to Lee Vining it is an additional 106 miles and the RV park there closes Nov.1 and yes you can also by pass Lake Tahoe but you will only pick up one day. Tahoe is a large alpine lake and very pretty that said it is also a big tourist destination the lake with boating, hiking, fishing in the summer and 8 major ski resorts ,world class,in the winter plus the 4 large casinos at stateline South Lake Tahoe. With this all said and not knowing how familiar you are with the west coast of the US I would strongly suggest if at all possible to take in Sequoia Natl.Park and Yosemite on your way down the coast as they are easier to get to from that side of the Sierras,a large mountain range. On the coast route Hwy.1 south of San Francisco you will go through a couple groves of Redwoods which are among the largest trees of the world this may sub for the Sequoias. For the scenic and historic value plus easier driving the first trip is better my opinion. I would be glad to answer any questions or give additional info if you want to PM me so we don't monopolize this site. And no I'm not a professional travel person or guide we have just traveled a lot in our RV. Have fun

I have another question- when driving through Nevada, where are there good places to stop??

we are planning a cross country drive leaving sf bay with our first planned stop in salt lake city. we would like to push through, but don't know where to pull over and rest on hwy 80. we are traveling with four young children so a 13 hr drive is not the most appealing...

Four Sisters from San Francisco to Salt Lake is 831 miles that's a haul I would do it in 3 days specially with children my opinion. The half way mark 472 miles would be Winnemucca, the Winnemucca RV Park has a pool for the kids,if you want to push further Elko is 599 miles we stay at Double Dice, there is a new park behind The Hilton Garden but have not stayed there neither has a pool and closer to your starting point is Reno the ones I would recommend are Boomtown,Gold Ranch,Grand Sierra RV Park,River's Edge all have pools except Grand Sierra. Again if it were me I would stop in Reno,Elko then Salt Lake. Have fun
