Would like opinion on both the Digital Stream DTX9950 and the Magnavox TB100MW9 Converters, do know that the Digital Stream DTX9950 has the Analog Pass Through Signal, does the Magnavox TB100MW9 also have the Analog Pass Through Signal?

It is my understanding that the Magnavox TB100MW9 is one of the six better Converters, according to the Consumer Report, the six 'Better' converters are: the Philco TB100HH9, Magnavox TB100MW9, Artec T3A Pro, Insignia NS-DXA1, Zenith DTT900, and the RCA DTA800B.

I have both the Zenith DTT and the Magnavox TB100. Am currently using the Magnavox on the house bedroom TV and I like it better than the Zenith. The Zenith does not have "pass through", has a hard to read remote, and is dumber than a doornail - cannot turn on my Panasonic TV. The Magnavox has "pass through", has a much easier to read remote, and doesn't even try to turn the TV on or off. Will have to use the Zenith in the RV. Since neither converter remote controls the TV, I can use the bedroom TV remote and watch the analog channels for another 8 months.

I have two of the RCA DTA 800B units which came with a remote. I do not believe that the converter has analog "pass through" but they do have a very large easy to read remote which is not "dumber than a doornail." The remotes turned both TV's on & off straight out of the box without my even programming them.

Gene,

You say you have the TB100, is that the Magnavox TB100MW9 sold by Wal-Mart or the Magnavox TB100MG9 sold by Sears.

It is my understanding that the Magnavox TB100MG9 is the upgraded converter of the Magnavox TB100MW9.

The Magnavox TB100MG9 allows you to receive Analog Pass Through Signal, while the Magnavox TB100MW9 does not receive the Analog Pass Through Signal.

The above information is the information I have been receiving in my E-mail.

I'm looking for the smallest box I can find for my B and the Radio Shack Digital Stream so far appears to be the smallest although Target may have one of comparable in the Venturer digital converter box.

As for an analog pass through signal, is my understanding this is something only to be concerned about or desired now, and will be a moot subject after February 2009? If so, it would be no concern to me.

I got the Insignia NS-DSA1 from Best Buy which is the same at the Zenith unit I saw at Circuit City. It does not have pass through but I installed a simple A_B switch to solve that problem. I don't think that the switch is even needed anyway and will remove it next February. It seems to me that the converters that have the analog pass built in are all larger. My unit fits nicely inside the cabinet behind the TV and the remote works with the door closed. This made for a very easy install. I did have to use a AC_DC inverter with it.

It is the TB100MG9 bought from KMart for $49.95 plus sales tax less $40 coupon. The analog pass through will be handy after next February as one of the local University channels and a Christian channel do not have to convert next February. Only above certain power levels have to switch.

I looked at the "Venturer" box being sold at Target, it does look smaller.

Gotagetgoing - That is a very interesting thought on installing the converter not in plain sight of the remote. That problem has been haunting me on how to mount one of these inverters where the remote could control it. Will have to do some experimenting with the one in the bedroom.
