I dont think I have seen this posted because it may be stupid, but I have a 29 foot four winds 5000. The air in the unit is not ducted, and when it is hot, the bedroom doesnt get as cool as I would like. I know I could install a second ac unit in the bedroom in the vent, but the question I have is has anybody installed a portable unit in the rear side window. It seems to me that 5000 btus of coolness in that little space would be much better than 13.5 that will freeze you out. It also seems that the 30 amp circuit, and the generator could handle it. It also is a cost of about $70 vs $500.00 plus installation. What you think??

Yes I have seen stick house window AC units in everything from a van back door window to a old class A that they just cut a new hole in the wall to install.....some were installed professional looking and some were installed (well lets just say not professional looking)....I am sure cost was a big factor to anyone who has done this....I am sure that they worked fine as they are designed to cool larger spaces than most RVs....Your power consumption might be a problem if you run your other AC at the same time....you will just need to check on the power ratings of the unit you buy and the one you have....
One other thing....I am quite sure the warrantee would be void on the stick house model if they find out it was installed in a RV...JMO
One other thing you might try first....Get a small fan and set it on the floor facing the bead room...Cold air sinks so if you blow the cool air into the rear room it might be all you need

In my tt, I installed on in the front bedroom.
I cut out two pieces of plywood and sandwiched them around the lip of the window, screwing the two together. No screws in my tt what so ever.
When I get where I am going, I open the window and slide the unit into the plywood.
30amp service, I can run both ac's the fridge, tv. Never have tried the mircrowave at the same time.

When shopping for a used RV, some of them would fit in our garage except for the A/C unit. I had considered replacing the A/C with a skylight and do what you are considering. But we ended up going with a new RV that was ideal.
My point is that it doesn't sound crazy to a crazy person like me.

Years ago, we bought an old 22ft Airstream which never had an air conditioner installed. I purchased a window unit and mounted it in the front window opening with plexiglass panels on each side. I made two tubular braces from the front corners of the A/C down to the tongue for support. Actually, we just plugged the 110v A/C into an existing outlet. Used it for years with no problems with structure of electric. At the cost, didn't worry about warranty.
Good luck with your project,
John

Installed in the rear side window I would be concerned about the overall width of the RV while traveling down the road. Could get caught by branches or worse a 18 wheelers sideview mirrors.
I have seen unique ideas for cooling, Last summer almost every day on my drive home from the office was a older Dodge Pickup (regular cab) from the 80's. Mounted on the cabs roof was a coleman Mach RV A/C plus a Generator mounted on the rear of the trucks bed. Looked strange but it worked. His windows were usually frosted over with sweat.

If you stick a second unit in, it should not stick out the side, or you could be to wide, and could get a ticket. They also come in all sizes, starting at about 5000 BTU/HR and the larger the more power they draw, and you do want to stay under the 30A standard cord and outlet size with both units on.
Back in the late 70s I had a 4X4 pick up with a 10'.6" slide in cab over camper that had almost everything, roof AC, microwave Etc, but no generator, or a place to install one. And I would go out in the desert on BLM land a lot, so I made a heavy bracket to mount on the front grill push bar, and mounted a Generac 3.5KW LP Gas RV generator on the front, and covered it with a venal generator cover when not in use. It worked great, and would run the AC and TV at the same time. I did have a gas shout off valve at the rear by the LP tanks for safety. With the cover on, it looked like a big winch.

I installed a 5000 BTU unit in the side of my little 12' trailer. It sticks out 5" which makes the total width of 90". I cut the hole exactly the size of the AC (11 1/2 x 17") It cools the trailer real nice. I have seen several installed like mine and you don't loose a window. I also saw one installed on heavy duty drawer slides so it could be pulled in when traveling.

Why not just an electric fan to move the air around in the MH? Why not just install a bigger roof A/C to handle whole MH.?
I have seen some class C's where a window A/C was added. But they cut a hole in the rear and installed it so it did not hang out the side.

There are smaller roof units that will fit the vent opening. There are 9000 BTU units - like the Polar Cub - that would have the least amount of guesswork in istallation. That would be the most professional looking.
