I have a 2002 Damon Intruder and shortly after bringing home the steps quit working. I scooted under the MH and saw where the steps were grounded to the frame. I unloosened the bolt, cleaned the fram where it was connected, cleaned the wire end and put a new bolt back in and it worked wonderful. I has been 2 years since. This may not resolve your problem but it might and it certainly is the cheapest thing to check before more costly step replacement

I just got mine to working 2 day's ago. It is a Holiday Rambler so I do not know if things are located in the same place, but I bet they work the same. Look under the MH, above the step on the frame and the 4 wire connector should be there. I unplugged the connector, took a test light and found no current on the red wire. The red wire should have current at all times. I found a breaker under the front hood, over the radiator (gas MH). The breaker was corroded where it mounted on the buss bar. Disconnected the chassis battery, removed the breaker, cleaned the buss bar with scotchbrite, reinstalled and it works great. Be sure the on/off switch in the MH is in the off position while working on the steps.
Hope this helps,
Larry

I forgot to follow up on this. It was both a dirty connection and needed some lubricant. It works fine now.

Check the lights by the switches--if they are dimmly lit then it is a good chance you have a bad ground---Dave

Before changing any parts.

Common problem;
The 4 wire connector to the steps gets corroded and won't pass 12VDC or acts as a resistor and won't pass enough current to run the motor.

That was my problem. Cleaned it up and plugged it back in and all is well.

If it's a kwikee step and it is extended you may be able to pull the pin and retract it by hand, use a bungy cord to secure it for travel

If it retracted.. You have a problem

To do this you will need.. One pair eyes, one small (10-12 oz will do) hammer and one partner

With the override switch off or the power switch on (Depending on the age of the steps) get under the rig where you can see what's up there but AND THIS IS IMPORTANT.. you won't get hit by the steps.. Take hammer

Observe the light.. Is it on? NO: Have partner open door, Yes: Have partner close door

Did the light change status: IF yes, then good. Skip to "OTHERWISE"

If no, then if the light went from OFF to OFF.. Test and replace lamp if needed

If the light went from on to on, Door switch is defective/not working or the magnet has moved and is not activating the switch.

OTHERWISE: motor may be frozen or have a dead spot

Tape gently with hammer a few times (YOU DO NOT WISH TO SMASH IT... YET) and have partner try again... Repeat a few times (CAREFUL)

If it works.. Read the threads about the Ford or Lincoln replacement motors for Kwikee steps

When I got mine out of storage this spring in Anchorage my steps would work only when they wanted to. Traced it down to the motor, no motors available in Anchorage, so I pulled the motor. When I took the motor apart about two tablespoons of water came out. I dried it out, greased it a little and cleaned the brushes and commutator, put it back together, lubricated the steps and it has worked ever since.
