I think Dr. Phil would like to address your underlying issues of trust and aggression. Maybe a stay at La Haciendia would help...

Its easier to just do it yourself. I back up, stop about 6 ft away from the tongue, get out and look at what I need to do to get it aligned.

Then get back into the cab and approximate 6 foot backward and however far you need to go right or left.

Usually I will get it close enough that I can kick the tongue on the ball.

Convex mirror from Camping World is worth the world to your relationship. You hang it over the edge of the tailgate or stick it on the cap window with suction cups. Then tilt it so you see the ball at the innner edge of the mirror. Back up carefully right under the ball. Drop the ball on the hitch, voila! Best low tech gizmo I have.

Now my DW still directs me into sites, but we agree in advance where we want to put the TT. And she tells me where to go using her cell phone, I have my cell on speaker in the truck so I can steer, and occaisionally swear, hands free.

I might actually agree. I do have some expectation that a human should be able to accomplish this simple task without too much fanfare. My daughter has backed me in under the ball twice without any trouble or drama, and she`s 11. I know everyone is different. Maybe I expect too much. I just don`t see why DW can`t see where the ball is and where it needs to be and just point a finger. We even have trouble with "stop", the balled fist. She likes the repeated, rapid, frantic sawing-the-neck motion with lots of fear on her face, like it`s the end of the world. I`ve gotten her to make the stop fist, but usually it`s the wrong way, like "up yours, buddy!" At least that lightens the mood when I see that in the mirror. I`ve also noted the lack of realization about park drift, both when backing onto the leggo`s and catching the ball. After 3 or 4 or 5 times, don`t you think it should start to sink in? I think I may just be an angry, white, middle-aged, ogre. A big, mean, meanie!! Shame on me.

I leave the truck door open and sight down to a spot on the ground that I estimate is 4 inches behind a point at the bottom of the door. I then back up without moving my head until the door lines up with that spot......

This is one I used all the time!

IMHO, Open hand and then make a fast fist when you want them to stop is the best way to convey stop now to the driver. For some reason the reaction time is right on when doing it this way.

You guys are sure brave. It is aggravating but I have the sense not to show it or let the DW in on the frustration. She has a gun! Actually, I believe I will plead the fifth on this one.

It's easire for her to tell you which way to turn your wheels, or buy some Hitchin' Posts.

Thank you! Yes, that was an issue for many trips.

Use your parking brake and the roll after park is non-existent most of the time.

Go to your favorite discount store or to JC Whitney.com and get an inexpensive backup camera. Best investment I ever made!
