Hello,

We are heading for the Durango area in a few days.
We want to take the kids (16,11) rafting.
Any good family oriented rafting spots around Durango ?

We will be traveling to Ouray & South Fork so these areas may be fine too.

There are no good rafting spots 30-40 miles from Durango. But there is pretty good rafting right through the middle of town on the Animas River.

Procrastinate now . . . don't wait.

Agree. We went in July last year and the company was a pleasure to deal with. The river was down though and there weren't many rapids. Everyone still had a great time though!

We stay in South Fork for 2-3 weeks each summer. A few years ago we drove to Durango (2 hours) to raft with the mild2wild group. Their company was great to deal with and very family friendly. They told jokes on the bus and the guide was a lot of fun. As mentioned earlier, the rapids were very mild - the later in the summer, the clamer the waters will be. What we did not like about the rafting was that the majority of it ran through town. You could look up and see the side of a hotel... We would have preferred a more remote spot. We have nothing against their company, we just prefer different scenery. We are going to try rafting out of South Fork this year. I think some companies run from Creede down to South Fork - it is a beautiful drive, so I know the scenery would be great. If you don't mind the idea of rafting more 'in town', then I'd stay there for the convenience!
Have a great trip.
