It is tough now but doable. I'd try a different dealer - like De Martini - if they won't deal closer to what you want then maybe you need to adjust your numbers. They sell a great coach and customer service is second to none. Period.

The dealer will always try to make as much a possible on each sale. Your control is that you have the money and you don't have to spend it if you don't like the deal.

You also have to realize you really can't compare auto sales to RV sales. The auto dealer has a huge advantage, he might only make a couple of hundred on the sale, but with the newer warranty programs it doesn't pay for you to go outside the dealer framework for service so he gets you on the service work and parts, which is where he makes his money anyway.

Dealers make money by selling vehicles! Period, end of quote, take it to the bank!

In today's world, most any new dealership, RV or car, represents a five million dollar investment in land and facilities minimum and another five million in inventory. They are not built to change oil. The purpose of a franchise or sales and service agreement is to sell new and used vehicles.

Although service and parts can be done profitably, it will not produce the return on investment to make it practical. The myth that service is where we make our money was started as a sales ploy to demonstrate why the price offered is such a bargain. We sell them cheap just to get the service. Yeah, right!

Your problem is the trade in. Get rid of your trade in and you will be in a position to deal.

And you got to remember, if the dealer takes a loss on a deal, even a small loss, he'll never be able to make it up in volume.

I've found that if you buy used "As is" with absolutly no warranty (not even until this afternoon) you can usually get them to move a little more.

I think right now dealeas really don't want trade ins that they then have to turn around and resell to get a profit. Sell you trade yourself and go in and make a deal. You'll do a lot better.

As suggested by other posters, your best bet is to dump your 5ver on your own, then go back to the dealer and make your best deal. Since all you can get is $18k for a trade, try selling it yourself for $22 or $25k. You're going to lose money on it, no doubt, but if you can squeeze another 4 or 5k out of it in a private sale, you're money ahead.

I suggest going to Oodle.com (they show ads from just about every source), put in your exact make and model and see what others are asking, then ask less. That's a good way to make a quick sale.

YES DEALERS ARE HUNGRY FOR SALES THAT MAKE A PROFIT AND LET THEM STAY IN BUSINESS. THEY DO NOT WANT TO MAKE A SALE AND LOSE $$$ JUST TO MOVE A RIG OUT THE DOOR.

If I read you numbers right and since you are $18K ($36K - $18K) up side down - wholesale to wholesale is $48K ($35K + $18K) just so he can pay off you loan. How much more does the dealer need to pay expenses and make a profit. Just add that to the $48K and you will get close. He told you $16K priced @ $64K and you offered to little in return so now you can dicker for a while or just walk away.

No. The fireman has to pay off his 36K loan, which means after the dealer gives him 18K, the fireman still has to pay the lender another 18K to sell the TH

The OP doesn't say whether the "deal" offered included the dealer paying off his rig. Sometimes it's included, othertimes it's not. Depends on the deal. It looks like a deal could be made if the pay off is the dealers responsibility. JMHO....Dennis

Original quote included the Dealer paying off my Toyhauler minus a $7k down payment. I think I have decided I will just take the next few years and payoff my Toyhauler. The Class A will probably just have to wait. There is no way it would be smart for me to take a $10-18K loss at this moment. Guess I need to learn to be happy with what I have for awhile. I still love the Toyhauler just wish the garage was bigger so I could fit all my toys.....
