It's been said here and elsewhere before. You don't know that you need sway control until it's too late. I have WD and sway control combined in one (equalizer). It's pretty painless.

The only time that I have towed without sway control/WDH is when moving the HTT around the yard. Just great to have the peace of mind on trips, especially when family members are traveling with me.

I towed my 21SS0 with an '03 Toyota 4Runner with a V8. This is the same set up as your Sequoia only it doesn't weigh quite as much. As a matter of fact, the tow rating on the 4Runner is a few hundred pounds greater than yours due to the difference in weight.

We had absolutely no problem towing under a variety of circumstances. I think the anti sway, WD hitch is very important. Without one, my 4Runner would squat a bit too much for me to feel comfortable. I never towed without my Equalizer so I can't say much about sway. I never experienced any sway.

We traded up to the Tundra as our long range plan to get a larger trailer. Now with gas going out of sight, our plans need to be reworked a tad.

Get the hitch. Your Toyota will do just fine towing your trailer.

I agree with this as well. I always use a WDH w/sway control on our rig.

Thanks so much for all the advice. I think I am starting to see a bit of a Trend in recommendations here.

Well, purchased a WDH, but not the additional sway. According to the Trailer folks who installed, they indicated the WDH would help w/ sway as well. Any way. The Sequoia pulls very well. I kept at about 60 mph, and didn't feel any sway w/ trucks passing and windy conditions. Maybe a very slight pull when trucks went by, but nothing more. Thanks again for those who responded for your advice and thoughts.

Only one thing. I wonder if I should change my login name...

I have a WDH but not sway control. For piece of mind, I'm gonna go buy one this weekend before my 14 night camping trip.

Question...Is this something I can install myself or does it involve welding?

You can probably install it yourself. One end attaches to a small hitch ball that just screws into the side wing of your current hitch head while the end other mounts vertically on the side of the hitch frame with several self-tapping screws.

We tow our 21SB with my '03 Sequoia and use both the WD and sway bar. I would be too nervous to tow without either. However, we only use the sway bar when we're on the highway, and our dealer said to never have it on when you're backing up. (Has anyone else heard that? Just curious.) It is VERY easy to put on/take off, as a previous poster mentioned, it just is a small ball hitch on either end (one on the top and one on the side of the bar) and they're held in place with cotter pins. After you attach the bar itself, you tighten the tension with a lever. (did that make any sense? lol) I think I made it sound more difficult than it is. Actually, I just took our trailer away last weekend for a horse show with my two daughters, no DH, and even as nervous as I was "going it alone", everything was fine and we had absolutely no problems. So, I guess if I can do it by myself, I'm pretty sure anyone can!!
Happy Camping!!
