Don't you just love how these OPEC members can get on TV and say that the price of oil is going to go up to "X" in the next 2 months and then immediately on the market it goes to "X+some"? Ironically, they blabber this stuff when the price of is stable for more than 2-3 days.

Does anyone realize that 'speculator' is simply the current term-in-vogue for investor?
I invest in this stuff too --- I'm financing my retirement by investing in oil. It's going to $175 --- I expect to make a lot of money by investing. It's legal, it's gambling, I may lose, but it's all market capitalism.
Everyone is using this term 'speculator' like this is something new...

I hope they do find the speculators at fault! since they are! how can anyone possible look weeks or even months into the future and then set the price of oil? this only helps out the speculators and in no way shows the real price of oil.

You are correct, but I do think we are now playing and gambling with our nation's security & existence now although it is market capitalism and legal. What good will your retirement be if our country is taken over by foreigners that may not allow you to keep your retirement or your current way of life? Risky business if you ask me.

no one reads history anymore. They are too busy reciting free market capitalism while the entire nation goes down the tubes.

I agree with it.
While SOME of the price increase is due to higher usage in China dn other third world countries, I beleive that the MAJORITY of it is due to speculation.
We've seen it before. Speculation is what drove housing prices through the roof. I have no sympathy for those people being forclosed on now that the bottom has dropped out. I might actually be able to afford a tiny house in the near future and stop being an apartment dweller.
I have freinds who would sell their OWN HOME and move every year or two because it was a "good investment" to sell, move, sell, move, sell, move.

Exactly. A large number, if not the majority of people in this country, purchased homes with the intent of having them appreciate in value and then sell it at a later point for a larger home. I'm 'the evil one' for investing in oil. But purchasing homes and demanding ever larger-and-larger homes by 'trading up' was considered a 'smart move', and practiced by millions of people, probably the majority of the people who are now on this thread complaining about 'speculators'.
That is actually something I never did --- I have only purchased one house and still live in it. People want a 'free market' and capitalist society until it does not benefit them.
Come on --- are all you posters going to tell me you have not 'speculated' on housing and kept the first house you purchased?

Geeze, we're still living in the only house we bought many moons ago.
