I noticed on two out of the three Roadtreks I checked for vehicle VIN report that the year advertised was off my one year. For example, as advertised it was 2004 but the VIN report showed it to be a 2003. Another one was advertised as a 2003 but the VIN report showed it to be a 2002.

Could the variance be due to Roadtrek taking the 2003 Chevy chassis and using it in the 2004 year for example?

Thank you

It's pretty common for the chassis VIN to be the model year before the coach serial number. Like any vehicle, buying late in the model year gets you a better price.

It's not unusual for any MH manufacturer to change over to his next model year specs while he still has chassis from the previous (current) model year. He may still have chassis left over well into the next calendar year. If it concerns you, check out any unit prior to purchase.

He can advertise as current year any unit he completes in that year, but your DMV (they can vary from state to state) will decide based on the chassis VIN what year it gets registered as.

That is how the system tends to work. When I bought my GWV, it was in late 2004 and I got the last Ford van in their inventory. But, it was considered a 2005 conversion because the work was done in October after the start of their 2005 model year. (just like with cars) It was registered as a 2004 van as is the rule for North Dakota, but some states will let you register it as a 2005. My papers all had both dates.

You will often see B's described as a 2004/2005 - this is very common with the Sprinters because of the changeover to the new models. I am certain that the manufacturer's papers are clear, but whether the dealers will be as clear when they are selling is another question.

The VIN is also coded to reflect the actual year the vehicle (chassis) was manufactured, not the model year.

Our RT 210P, purchased in December 2006 was advertised as a 2007 RT, but has a 2006 chassis (and we knew that when we purchased). It has all the features of the 2007 model year, enclosed bath, extended galley drawers and pull-out front table, 5.1 surround, etc - except the solid surfaces are white - later in 2007 RT changed to a grey-tone solid surface. It is not unusual for the manufacturers to change features/specs multiple times during any given model year. Ours is registered in Colorado as a 2007 RT. Jean and Jan in Colorado

I had a 1979 Dodge "C" with a 1978 chassis and a 1977 engine. All original equipment.
