This mother's heart is very heavy. My son is in El Paso, TX ramping up to be deployed to Iraq. He just called me and told me that the family visitation period that happens just prior to deployment is August 28-September 1. So we're cancelling our Labor Day weekend camping trip and I'm flying to El Paso. I'm clueless about El Paso and need help. It's too far to drive the camper, so I need help with hotels and other advice about the area. I typically stay in Super 8 style hotels, i.e. cheap but decent. Plus I want to be close to the base so we're not doing a bunch of driving. It'll be myself, my DIL and 1 yr old grandbaby, so safety is an issue. This forum is so awesome, that I knew you guys could help me.
I didn't post this in the roads/routes forum because I'm not camping there, hope that's okay.

you will find no problem with finding a motel close to ft bliss. go on line, look for motels on Montana or Airways Ave. Rental cars are availible at the airport and the airport is only two miles from Ft Bliss.

Have your son make reservations for you on post at the guest quarters that they have there. Don't wait too long or they will be all booked up. Safer and a lot closer to your son. Hope this helps. John

There is a great hotel right on base, Ft. Bliss Lodging. Your son can sponsor you and rates are $49 no tax. Like I said, GREAT place!

All Army bases have many hotel options. Do a google map and search for hotels. My best regards for you and your son, please give him my thanks for protecting us. Your not going there to tell him bye, your going to tell him that you love him and to get his behind back here in one piece.

I was stationed at Ft Bliss in the mid 60's. We went back in Dec 06. We stayed near the airport because the security appeared better. Try the post as others have suggested, if not avaiable stay near the airport. You'll be near the post but then again it's a big post.
