I have a 2006 Jayco 23B, now out of warranty. I am having problems with the power slide. End of last season, occaisionaly the slide woudl not immediately work when I pushed the toggle switch. I would use a socket wrench to start it manually, and then the power switch would work. Today, I went through the same procedure, and then used slide out lubricant on all of the moving parts and then powered it in and out several times. After sitting for several hours, I tried the slide again, and now it won't work at all. I can still operate with the socket wrench, so I don't think it is bound or stuck. It has a 20amp reset fuse. I tried replacing that with a standard 20amp fuse, still nothing. It does not sound as if the motor is trying to work at all, just silence.

I am not an electrical wizard, so any advice on how a novice could trouble shoot this problem would be great.

Thanks!

Perhaps the wall switch if you are sure the battery circuit is okay.

I had a slide refuse to open and it ended up being a bad connection at the battery. Look under the slide and see if you can trace a wire to the battery. Then check the connection very carefully. My cable was corroded where the spade (the thing that connects to the battery) was crimped to the wire. I simply snipped off the spade and attached a new one.....and the slide worked perfectly.

Before doing the above...check to make sure your battery is charged and ok.

I also pulled my wall switch....which was ok. But you can pull the switch and check for any loose or wires not attached.

Good luck....hope this helps.

Probably corrosion on some wires, either the switch, connectors, electric motor or battery cables. Make sure battery is in good shape and fully charged. Clean and tighten as a first step in trouble shooting. Note that Lippert, the folks that build the slide out systems, recommends not to use lubricants, as it can build up gunk and dirt. The Lippert system has been tested for thousands of in/out cycles with out failure due to lack of lubricant.

Update, I set my voltage meter up at the wire nuts right off of the motor (the ones that connect the motor to the thicker supply wires). At that point, when I press the switch, I get a reading of 13.0, so it seems as if switch and supply are working properly. Is there a way to test the motor itself?

I hate to think the motor would be bad already...but who knows. Is a 1/6th HP "vonweise" brand, model V05726AV88.

I did pull the motor off the slide to see if it would run under no load, but not even a hum.

One more question for you serious DIYers. Where is the best place to buy one of these motors (used maybe?). My local rv dealer was closed today, so could not check prices, but I fear they will be pretty expensive. Could not find it on-line searching by model.

Thanks!

I'm not a serious DIY, however when I do dabble in it, I have had luck getting motor parts at Graingers, being a woman I have found it better to bring the whole motor in with me. I let the guy behind the counter check his big catalogs for what will work. So far they have found something that will work or could direct me somewhere else.
Good luck.

Every man should have a multi meter, you can buy a cheapie for $20 at Lowes. You need to check voltage at the switch and at the motor when the switch is depressed. More than likely you have a bad switch or a bad connection.
