Hi from Ga... for you Death Valley fans, try "maturango.org/deathv.html" Lots of info and current conditions. The temp was 119 last weekend, but I don't remember where in DV that was. We're going early spring next. BTW, We loved Anzo-Borrego State Park in Feb, but right now temps are similar to DV. Hope you have a great time wherever you go. Regards,Craig

We stayed at Panamint Springs last year when it was 115 at Furnace creek. It was much cooler at Panamint Springs and I personally thought it was one of the most interesting places that we have ever stayed.. Sitting on the porch drinking a cold beer and watching the interesting people that pass through. The resident Mongoose, The incredible sunsets over the desert.

If you must do the Titus Canyon in July, wait for another car at the entrance and go in together. Saw two cars with flat tire five miles in during spring break. Again, I wouldn't do it in the summer.

Thanks, I don't think I'll be doing any off-roading, or very limited close to paved roads. As a firefighter I'm well prepared, the park service just better not hope I need help cuz if I do I guarantee they will know about it very quickly! LOL

Seek help before you go, after you get there may be too late, make a will, if you've been fighting fires in California you may have inhaled too much smoke (hidden pot farms)

I just got home. Once I get a few photos edited this afternoon I'll post about the trip. I did stay two days in Panamint Springs and two days in Lone Pine. Details in a bit.

Thanks,
Dave

Did you meet the resident Mongoose at Panamint? How did you like the Bar there? One of a kind, yes?

Whilst we are all on the subject of camping in the heat of DV, let's spare a thought for the coalition forces in Iraq who are coping with 111 degrees with full protective gear on.

Anyone walking around in the desert heat in shorts amd Ts should think what it must be like for those guys and gals who serve their country and are wearing their body armour and carrying 40lb packs in the same heat.

What about the firefighters in the state wearing all their gear, on a fireline trying to protect peoples homes and property? Both groups are giving for their country. Anyways.............

Dixonmatco I really didn't visit the bar, I wasn't drinking with the heat. The restaurant was great though.

But here's a trip report and some photos from the trip, enjoy!
