We could do the Columbia site easily. If it's much farther away we probably won't attend because of going the previous month to the LA get together.
Looks like a nice campground. Very convenient access off I-70.
Maybe Van City would want to get involved because of the location???

Yes, that was one of our thoughts and they sponsored B3. We plan to give them the opportunity if MO is selected.

Outside of a straight up vote, how do you propose to get a western site? Just name a western site by fiat?

You are right - that's a challenge.

One way would be to allow preferential weighting for odd or even years. Bottom line is until us western folks get some of the momentum of the eastern efforts - it's going to be tough to compete. Maybe for now it remains an independent event - and we see how it matures.

But just as some have said anything west of Columbia, MO is too far from the east - it's farther from California/Oregon/Washington/British Columbia.

The eastern folks have done an admirable job of organizing events over the last 5 years - and have built a wonderful community. I was just asking for consideration of alternating regions.

Chris and I got back earlier today from visiting our nomination for the 6th annual RV.NET rally for the weekend beginning 5/15/09. The location is Indian Creek Camping Resort, located on the shores of Lake Erie in Geneva on the Lake, Ohio. Their web site is www.indiancreekresort.com.

This camping resort is situated on 110 acres across the street from Lake Erie, it is large, clean, and well maintained. They can accommodate up to 74 units on level gravel sites with electric, water, and/or sewer. There is also an area of open camping with electric only that can accommodate several hundred units.

AMENITIES: Large enclosed pavilion with tables and seating for up to 300, with a sound stage, restrooms, and kitchen facilities and also a large screen TV. With a group rate of between $35.00 and $45.00 per night depending on hook ups chosen, the pavilion is included at no extra charge and would be exclusively ours for the weekend for all meals, meetings, and social events. The pavilion also has two indoor shuffleboard courts, and two corn hole game set ups, a huge grill and fire ring outside with picnic tables that would accommodate our entire group. There are also two stocked (Bass) fishing lakes and no license is required. Although the campground is flat, they have a small fleet of 4 passenger golf cars available for rent by the day, weekend, or week. Very clean and large restrooms, 2 pools, laundromat, modern miniature golf course, and a family hair salon. A hospital is nearby for emergencies. There are also a gas station, beverage carry out, grocery store, restaurant, and lounge with entertainment located at the entrance of the park. Free wireless internet, and yes, cell phone signals are strong. And here's a biggy, a wedding chapel right in the campgound for those who might need one.

ATTRACTIONS: First, Lake Erie itself. Walk across the street and down a set of stairs owned by the campground to a deck overlooking the lake. The town of Geneva on the Lake has an old penny arcade style main street, with game arcades, store front food, bars, lounges, ski ball, fascination, ice cream stands, etc. Sort of reminds me of a small Atlantic City boardwalk. From the street there is also walking access to the lake and beaches. The strip is about a mile down the road but shuttle service is available. Nearby are 16 covered bridges dating back to 1850 and 18 local wineries. Tours of these are available. Near the campground is Geneva State Park with a beach, marina, boat ramps, and camping. There you can charter a boat for fising in Lake Erie with all equipment provided however you will need to purchase a one day or one week fishing license available at the campground. May is an excellent time to catch Lake Erie Perch. Located in nearby Thompson is Thompson Drag Raceway, for those who like drag racing events. Less than an hour east, is Presque Isle State Park with a 140,000 square foot gambling casino. 45 miles west is Cleveland, with Cleveland Indians baseball, the Rock & Roll hall of fame, dining cruises on Lake Erie, concerts, or for you theater fans, Cleveland's Playhouse Square. Nearby University Circle is the home of The Cleveland Botanical Gardens, The Cleveland Museum of Natural History, The Cleveland Museum of Art, the Wester Reserve Historical Society, and The Case Western Reserve University. A little further south in Canton, is the Po Footbal Hall of Fame. For thrill seekers, and hour west of Cleveland is Cedar Point, voted the number one roller coaster park in the world several years running. Also the Lake Erie Islands featuring Put-in-Bay. Extend your stay and you'll have plenty to see and do.

In closing our report, we would just like to say, whatever your interests, sitting around the campfire, relaxing, touring, wine tasting, night life, sports, fishing, gambling, racing, or the arts, it's all right here

If our nomination is chosen, our goal would be to once again provide all meals and entertainment for the weekend with a few surprises. Due to lack of interest last year, there would be no auction.

Thank you for considering Indian Creek Camping Resort for the RV.NET B-6 Rally.

A concern about Indian Creek resort. It's in the same state as B5, albeit, the opposite end of the state.......

That's exactly why we need more volunteer hosts and more sites to vote on, it's not that hard to do. There are 43 continental states that haven't had an RV.NET Class B rally. Let's get a few more choices on here.

And it should be noted that there are quite a few of us that have helped with previous rallies and probably a lot that have not been on a rally organizing team that will be glad to help out the hosts of whatever site is selected.

Time is of the essence though. The nominating process needs to be completed in a couple of weeks, a voting period allowed that is long enough to catch most of those that might be traveling, and then a selection of site firmed up so campsite reservations can be locked in while that is possible for a large group. So jump in and join the fun with a campsite nomination in your neck of the woods. The qualifications can be seen by looking at those already nominated.

Any chance of tweeking the rules in future years to allow the possibility of a western site? I think a "straight-up" vote is always going to favor an Eastern locale. Due to time pressures, it's too late in the process for changes for B6 - but I would like the group to consider the merits of alternating venues - odd number years an eastern locale, even number years a western locale.

The Missouri nomination (thanks Asheguy & ibthebest) is a central locale - so that is another possible solution.

Else, I suspect that many western folks either will never participate, or will form a different event.

Obviously, we will need to get some western locales nominated for this too work - but in a straight up vote - I'm not sure I'd bother to do the work to nominate a site.

Maybe I'll start a separate thread to ask the question of the forum members.

Some time ago I tried to generate some interest in a Western Class B Rally each fall since the Spring Rally will probably continue to be in the east or midwest. Couldn't find anyone willing to organize it. I think most were intimidated by the formality of the official B rally and/or did not want to have to solicit sponsors. (I hated that part, too.)

It doesn't have to be a second "official B Rally". Moab could be the beginning of a fall tradition. If you look on the "Rallys" page, you will find more rallys than you could possibly attend. So don't worry about the date of a proposed mini-rally in California conflicting with one on the East Coast. You can float the idea and ask for suggestions or you can just decide where you will be and when, then invite others to join you.

If I understand Rodger correctly, the proposed mini-rally or BEE Social can be announced on CVC with a link to the Rallys forum.

Yeah, the more I think about it - it probably makes sense just to build on the Moab mini-rally, and see how things go. Once we have more of a core of interested people, we can nominate a site.

I think the natural desire to see new places will probably help a western site win - once we have a group of folks to scout them out and nominate them.

I thought about a "hurry-up" effort to find maybe a Colorado location - I always enjoy trips through Colorado - but I don't want to organize the thing by myself. Moab will help build friendships.
