Hi Everybody, as you know I'm overseas in Iraq and have about 80 days left on this tour. My first Rv Trip is coming up fast it will be a 1000 miles trip from Oklahoma to Indiana. So here is my question, after having all the service done on my new to me 1990 Southwind all fluids change , tune-up ect. I need to know what ERS is the best to buy. I have heard great news about Coach-Net. And I think I'll get that one, but I have read that a lot of RV Owners have Coach Net and something called FMCA. What is this? and Do I need both? And my last question is what kind of RV Insurance do I need to buy exp, how much do I need for a deductable, what is a fair price for the insurance, non smoker, 47 years of age. And we will only use it about 5 to 6 times a year I don't know alot about this, this is my 1st MH so any help would be great.
Thanks for the information SGT R.SMITH US ARMY IRAQ
We have State Farm Insurance , and it's for 7500 miles or less per year and cost $479 a year. It may be included as a multi car discount as we have a Honda CRV 2006 all set up for towing it behind the 1997 Tropical 235s. The memberships you are thinking of gives you some advantages for services but remember you can stay at the many Military RV parks at big discounts. The deductibles I have are $500. The unit you have needs the tires checked for age, you can do that by the stamped numbers that when entered into the manufactures data base will tell you how old they are. Anything older than 7 years should be replaced. If you have a membership in Camping World and get their credit card they give you special deals on purchases over $299 where you get 6 or 12 months no interest if you pay before end of the term. Thanks for your service to all of us! You should be arriving just in time for the beautiful fall colors in the Smokies.

We have Prosgressive Insurance and their road service. Have had to use them twice and had NO problems at all. They were very concerning as to our well being on the road (where we were and have we been taken care of in a timely fasion?). The response time from them has been increddible as far as getting someone out to help. I highly recommend them.

Smitty,
Coach-net for your ers, go on line and you can get it b4 you arrive. 79.00 a year, and it covers all your vehicles. I have American National (ANPAC) no restrictions, 500 deductable. less than 500 per yr. I have all my vehicles and my house with them too. We had a hail storm in the spring, everything that had a single hail ding, they replaced, including a two yr. old roof on the house, detached garage, and shop. the independent adjuster left and told me he would send me the paperwork, when i received it, it was a little over 38K.
btw, i missed ups on friday, i have a card to go to their store, which is about 6 blocks from home, i will go monday. I don't have anything i have ordered coming in so i think i know what this is....:-)

What nobody mentioned is that Coach-Net is by far the best if you read all the Good Sam vs Coach-Net threads. All I can say is they sent the right rig to get me, no hassles, and dropped me at a shop who fixed my problem quickly.
The way Coach-Net works is it is $79/year if you buy direct, and $39 if you spend $40 to buy your FMCA membership first. Seems a no-brainer, since you get the magazine, a number of different benefits that a lot of people use, and the chance to go to various FMCA rallies all for the same total price. That's the way I go.

First of all let me say THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!!
I would check the date code on the tires and determine their age. Any thing over 7 years old should be changed out. In addition I would get the four corner weights after getting it loaded and adjust pressure per axles as stated by the tire manufacture.
With respect to ERS I have had both Good Sam and Coach Net and based on my egocentricities prefer Coach Net. Check here for Coach Net and here for Good Sam ERS There are other insurance and manufacture clubs but IMHO these are the two main ones.
There are two main national RV organizations. One is FMCA or Family Motor Coach Association and the other is Good Sam. We belong to both. FMCA generally caters to the class A crowd and does not let fivers, travel trailer and ect join. Good Sam takes every one and will even take you $$ even if you do not own a RV. They both hold national convention/rally two to four time a year and both have sub clubs. Locally we are more involved with the Good Sams and we prefer the FMCA national rallys. We use the Good Sam book that list RV Parks nation wide and buy a new one every couple of years. If you join FMCA you will get a little better price on Coach Net and they have some other small insurance that is covered by your membership. Go here for FMCA or here for Good Sam
For the Motor home insurance I would look to get a package deal from whom ever insures the stick house ( if you have one) and other autos. I would consider a large liability rider when I start looking. In your case I would consider USAA as a start. We have State Farm. Premiums can be based on zip codes and it pays to shop around. The amount of detectable is some what your personal preference. With a 1990 rig I would consider $1k to $1.5K
I trust this is not TMI = "too much information" and if I can be of further help send me a PM
Last of all let me say THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!!
