I got lucky two days before I was drafted and won a very nice salt water pole/reel combo and some other goodies to go with it.
I won it for catching the biggest striped bass I had even caught (true to this day too). It was during an annual 3 day derby my town in CA held each year. It was some 28.5#. Caught bigger salmon and sturgeon in my time however.
My dad keep the pole and tackle while I did my thing in the Army.
I still have the pole, and a pix of the fish and I somewhere.
But it's embarrassing today to think of how young I was when the Army grabbed me for service in 1966.
You know, I have come to a conclusion. If I ever get back to salt water again I may not leave again!
I also won a couple of trips in the Army, but I never competed for that duty at all!

I won a trip for 2 to HI back in 91. My mom worked for a travel agency and was able to play with the tickets and hotel reservations. I had to pay an extra $50 for 1 ticket and we took the girls to HI for 7 days.

We won $1500 dollars in electricity from our EMC when they held a member's meeting. One year we received over $15,000 from the Georgia lottery for our kids to be in college and while it was not alway that much, we received a good amount for around 8 years while 4 of our kids went to college.

I won a nice pair of Altec Lansing speakers ($500 msrp in 1985 dollars.) No purchase necessary. Just fill out a form and drop in the box. 3 months later got a call to pick 'em- I had forgotten all about it. Still using them today.
