Lightguy48 is right, both out going and return juice MUST be equal, if not, the hot stuff is going someplace else. And this is what you don't want, GFI prevents this.
Sorry Jerry, phone calls are just not something I do although I know you mean well. The GFI on the CG post is what tripped. Of course, we can't test the outlet since we are not at the CG anymore.
Thanks for everyones suggestions but I suspect it is way beyond my powers and I will have it checked out by our RV repair service when we take it in to make sure that the problem is not with the 5er.
One thing I did notice on the outlets at the CG was a trip switch that was also on the 120 side. The yellow button on it flipped to red when we plugged the 5er in. The second CG we went to had the switch on the 120 but not on the 30amp outlet.
Again thanks for everyone's help and suggestions, Susan

I also don't ever remember noticing any GFIs on 30A or above circuits.
Are you sure your service wasn't affected for some other reason?
For example, my surge protector won't let me connect if the campground's nonGFI 30A wiring is somehow faulty, such as reversed polarity or a bad plug connection. I've run into such problems on a couple of occasions and had to move on.
