Masterlock hitch lock is always on hitch whether its coupled with tv or on its own. sucks to here stories of folks coming home or going to pick up their units at storage and finding them gone.

I lock my hitch onto the TV. I lock the coupler on the trailer. I also lock the coupler hole where the ball goes. Do I think anything would happen no but why take the chance.

I lock the hitch with a lock from Lifelong Locks (you can search it on the Internet.) In case I'm 'out-and-about' with the hitch still on at least it may deter someone from stealing it. They didn't have the size trailer coupler lock that I needed, so I'm still looking for one.

Okay, so now I've read that I should use a hitch lock to keep it from getting stolen, and to not use one cause they fill up with dirt and have to be cut off. As I've had all the locks (3 or 4) on the back door of my truck caps get full of dirt requiring replacement (even with the rubber covers), I've opted to skip the hitch locks. Is this just a northern snow country thing or have you folks not had them long enough for them to foul? Anyone out there had one in use for several years? Of course the truck cap is in use 12 months a year as opposed to a month or 2 of travel time for a hitch.

I use a ball lock , a coupler lock, and a lock on the hitch itself. I'm not one to make it easy for a thief. Someone mentioned the lock fouling in areas with bad weather. Well I live in NY, but I never move the HTT in the winter, so no worries there.
Another good reason to have one is in the event you have to leave the trailer for some reason. I did just that this past weekend when I had 2 bad tires. Nobody had a tire my size on a Sunday, so it had to sit overnight in a parking lot till I returned with 2 new Titans.
I would suggest you get a lock set for the trailer & hitch.

We use the masterlock set it came with a lock for the hitch, the pin for the tongue and the one for the ball when not connected all keyed the same.

There's an excellent series of U-tube videos on how easily the Master trailer locks are to defeat (!) but theft of the trailer is highly unlikely with only a bit of caution.

I lock our Equalizer drawbar-head to the truck if I'm going to be driving without the trailer. A mean prank could leave me with no means to pull the trailer. I do the same with our boat trailer. As for locking the trailer coupler when it's in storage I use one that covers the bottom of the coupler on both my trailers. Someone stealing my motor boat and trailer is more likely and I lock the drawbar and lock the trailer to the ball when we're boating so I don't come back to the dock and find no trailer for the boat.

I worry little about theft at campgrounds and take the Equalizer off the truck, it's hard enough to park without the stinger on the rear. Hitch goes under the trailer with the locked pin thru the hole.
