Thanks for all the information everyone. I'm leaning towards metal. I've had them in my 68 FJ40 for years with no leaks or problems. Now, the challenge is to find some of decent quality designed for high pressure.

I do a lot of custom valve stem installs on rims with beadlocks to stop the rocks from eating up stems and have found these folks to have a good selection and quality.

I have heard that these braided extensions that I have on my valve stems are also a cause for leaks, has anyone had this same issue? it appears that if not set just right they can put uneccessary strain on the valve stem causing it to rip over time. Is there a better alternative?

PS I have had a couple of tire failures and I am trying to nail down the causee between the valve stems and possibly being over weight
