Family of 4 saved by Grace!!! MY TRUCK OUR TRAILER
I just got back from looking at a 1 ton truck, a F350. The price was right. However, the dealer would only give me an amount that was 1/2 what I paid less than a year ago on my 2007 Tundra. So that option won't work for me.
I saw on the website for Lance campers that they match a truck camper that weights 1610 dry with the Tundra. However if you add the weight of 2 people and fill the fresh water tank and allow for 200 lbs for all other items, the payload would come up to over 2,400 lbs. This is close to what I have with my rig. How can Lance match a camper to the Tundra? I emailed them to find out.
A technical rep from Lance told me that a truck camper towing a horse trailer on a 1/2 ton just would not work. I thought more about that 1 ton F350 and decided to get it. All payload issues have been resolved. Only thing is that the truck is a long bed, while the camper is for a short bed. I guess I won't have to remove the tailgate and that the turnbuckle and chain will just be longer. Thanks to everyone for educating me and ensuring my rig is safe.
Congrats on a fine truck ( see my sig) did you get the Powerstroke? Right now you can pick them up much cheaper than you could a few years back!! I would sell your Tundra yourself, don't let a stealership rob you of your hard earned money.
Yes, I got the Powerstroke. It sure sounds (and smells) sweet! I have been seeing a lot of bad press on the 6.0 though. I'm heading out to a dealer to get an Oasis report. I also think the truck has a lift kit added as it sure rides high. Or maybe it's normal for a 1 ton empty, not sure. I understand I shouldn't have a lift kit if I have a TC because of the COG.
The 03 and 04 6 leakers ( just kidding) were known to have a few problems, some severe, hopefully the PO got all those worked out already. A Oasis report is a good idea, but before you bought it. But hey you got the torque shift trans so that's a big plus. You will love the way that truck pulls. My 1 ton 4x4 doesn't sit up very high, but I have a dually. You should be able to easily look and see if it has a lift kit or not. As long as it isn't a huge lift, 4" or more, you should be okay. If it is greater than that I would look at putting it back to stock height. Make sure you hook up a after market gauge for the trans temps, the Ford unit is junk and shouldn't even be looked at.
The Oasis was fairly clean, other than minor recalls there was one no start, fixed with a new glow plug. I think the truck is actually stock with no lift. It is a 4x4 and new ones at the dealer were high as well. I looked under and there was nothing that looked added. I'm loving it so far. I have a 30 day guarantee so I'm driving it everywhere for now. I posted in the truck camper forum a question about carrying a generator - in tailgate or tongue of the trailer. It would be nice not having to lift the generator in and out of the camper.
