Yah I suppose. We thought of going the sattelite way but with our wifi antenna on the roof we always seem to find an open connection that we can jump on. Most RV parks seem to have good enough wifi for skype.
Our experience with Skype on Sat connections is the same as we RV's. We have a Hughes sat internet and Skype doesn't work very well (you hear the caller but your voice is chopped up on their end). For that reason we dumped our Skype subscription.
We also tested Skype on park wifi and found that most parks outside major cities in Mexico also use a sat connection, we had the same results (as did other campers who tried Skype with thier computers).
If your communications are casual (not "mission critical") go ahead and try, otherwise get a cell phone.
We went to satellite because we found that the WiFi in many parks is not that stable. It may not reach all sites, and during peak hours it is overloaded. Since we need internet for business when on the road, and because we have family scattered all over Kingdom Come, we did not want to be tied to parks that could offer good WiFi. In so many parks, one refrain often heard among RVers is, "Are you able to get on line today?"
