Since the price of fuel has caused us to refrain from pulling our 5'er, we decided to park our unit at a rv park 35 minutes away in a small town on Matagorda Bay. We go and stay in it every weekend. How relaxing. Our norcold 682 is 14 years old but still work. We leave it on in the electricity mode with gas back up. Well, recently it formed ice on the aluminum plates in the refrigerator portion. I shut it off and defrosted it. We emptied it out and turned it on. When we returned this weekend, it was 60 degrees in the refer, the freezer section was frozen. I shut it off for 4-5 hours, then using my fist, I bumped quite sharply, the large round accumilator that you see when you open the acess door. I turned the unit on and went to bed. When I awoke the unit was working perfectly sitting on the 40 degree make. My question to you gurus out there, could the freezer unit have froze up and caused this problem? Could it have had a restriction in the refrigerant system it self. Anyone else ever have this problem?
Thanks for the reply SHawn
The most frequent cause of heavy frost on the refrigerator cooling plates is a leak in the door seal that allows humid air to circulate into the refrigerator. Try the "dollar bill test". Insert a bill or other piece of paper in the door opening, close the door and pull it out. If there is no friction, or very little, the seal isn't making contact in that area.
