I know that if you get a prescription filled at Wal Mart in the United States, you can get it refilled at any other Wal Mart in the U.S. What about getting them refilled at a Wal Mart in Canada? We are about to leave for a vacation in Canada, and I was wondering about some of my prescriptions that might need to be refilled while we are gone. Does anyone know if I could get them filled up there if the original is in the states? I have already asked the pharmacist and he told me he didn't know because it has never happened to him.
Why not make a phone call to one of the Walmarts you'll be visiting in Canada or get your doctor to authorize a refill for the amount of days you'll be out of the U.S.?
Not only do you need to know if they will refill them in Canada, you also need to know if your insurance will pay for them if you purchase them in Canada. Maybe the insurance will reimburse you instead. If you pay for them yourself that isn't a concern.

You can NOT get prescriptions transferred to Canadian Pharmacies. The best advice is to take adequate meds with you. IF you run out there are options. Bring copies of your prescriptions. I have on several occasions visited a local Canadian Dr to rewrite MY prescriptions to get them filled. I had to pay the Dr for a visit, $30- $50.
Another option which I did last week. I had my scrip transferred from WM to a pharmacy in NY about 30 miles from Montreal where I drove to pick them up. As I have medicare "D", that was MY best option.
sirdrakejr brings up a good point regarding availability. You can check Canadian pharmacies online to see if YOUR meds are available as well as approximately how much they will cost.
Before I had medicare, I paid out of pocket for my meds so insurance was NOT an issue. When the US dollar was stronger here my meds were costing me quite a bit less in Canada. That is not the case now for many meds although some are still less.
I have been filling scrips in Canada for more than 20 years.

Just chiming in with other posters. You should be able to get your RX in advance --- enough to last your trip without trying to refill in Canada which may very well not be possible (as other posters have pointed out).
Getting extra meds due to traveling is done all the time and talking to the pharmacy you normally go to will probably tell you that they do this all the time. Our local Walgreens, Osco, and Walmart all state no problem unless the doc has an issue with it. If it's 'maintenance meds' (such as for hypertension or cholesterol), and you've been on them for some period of time, there will be no issue at all.

Getting more than a 90 day supply of Hypertension meds is difficult on Medicare "D", NOT impossible, but difficult. I have tried several times with no success.
Thank you for all your replies. Especially SidKaye as you have been there, done that. This trip will only be in the Gannonoque and Kingston area, which is not too far above the border. This has never been a problem because neither my husband nor I have ever had medications that we take on a regular basis before. Again, I thank you all for your wonderful advice.
recently I called Wal-mart Canada, and asked the same question..since we stay in Arizona during the winter..it was a flat NO- Walmart Canada is not allowed to access Walmart-USA computer system..or vise versa/ I had thought how convenient that would be, but just because its logical to me, doesn't mean the same to big business. If we ran out/or lost/stolen meds while in Arizona, I would just go see a Dr. and get a new rx..we do carry lists of rx's and medical charts with us..hopefully that will be logical to do..Dona

Arizona's a cinch for meds. Copy your Canadian prescriptions. If you run out, loose the drugs or whatever you take a run south and your friendly Mexican Pharmacist will fix you up.
Price varies but some stuff way cheaper then Ontario.
