Hello All,
I am moving in 19 days and need to tow a Jeep Liberty behind a Penske moving truck. When inputting info into their web site it says that it cannot be towed due to tire size...
Has anyone ever done this?
Do I need to purchase my own tow dolly?
Thanks in advance for advice!
I am interested in purchasing a new jeep liberty to tow behind our motorhome. I thought the liberty can be towed 4 down, with tow dolly. I guess I need to look into more. anybody have any input.
phxspice is wanting to tow a libert on a 2 wheel dolly 1 time. jimdoreen1 you ar talking about towing it with a towbar set up which the liberty is great for.
Penseke is saying it won't work because of tire size because the straps that come with their dolly's are made to go over smaller automobile tires. phxspice needs to put his libert on the 4 wheel flatbed trailers rather than a 2wheel dolly.
If there is any question, rent a trailer to haul the Jeep. Not all Jeeps can be towed 4 down.

Almost all, if not all, Jeeps can be towed 4 down.
Almost NONE of them, can be towed with front wheels on a Dolly.
In order to tow 4-down, you will need to install a baseplate to attach a the towbar to, and unless you intend to tow the Jeep behind an RV in the future, it seems like an expensive and time consuming option.
I think you best bet is to rent a flat trailer and put the Jepp on it for a one time move.

With the advent of newer models and differences in drivetrains, not every Jeep can be towed 4 down. In fact the number that can be towed 4 down is dwindling every year. There are even 2WD Wranglers out there that can't be towed 4 down. If it's 2 WD it probably can't be towed 4 down WITH Chrysler's blessing.
Recently, of the three major truck rental companies, only U-Haul told us that we could tow our 4 WD 2008 Wrangler behind their trucks 4 down. Budget told us that we have to use a dolly, like that's going to happen. Penske told use that we couldn't do it at all. Point is, those guys don't have a clue, either. Do your research, read the owners manual and tow it the way Chrysler says is correct.
