If this isn't the right place, please move.
I was behind a 5th wheel and a TT today. I was not towing, just driving. We passed a temporary/ portable weigh station. The police officer waved in the 5th wheel and TT. In previous threads on this, the general assumption was no, RV's do not get called in. I know I've passed these stations in the past and never stopped. Just a new take on this I thought I'd mention.

Kinda odd, or maybe they are still searching campers for that fugitive who got away.

Maybe it has something to do with it being a "temporary/portable" weigh station.

I have posted over the years that all states have the authority to stop and weigh any vehicle it chooses. I have seen large white signs with red lettering setting alongside the road, in the southeast, as you approach a set of scales that said, "all RVs must stop at scale". Don't ever think that just because you drive an RV you don't have to follow LEO instructions. Also, there are many states now testing RVs and Tow Vehicles for dyed(red) fuel, which is easily accomplished at a scale.

Very well could have been commercial haulers delivering new units. They have to be registered with DOT numbers displayed. They have the same requirements as other professional drivers such as log books and safety inspections on the tow vehicle.

About a year ago I posted about talking to a PSP trooper who was using our facility to pull do DOT checks, specifically targeting Light and medium duty trucks hauling tractors, and other equipment.
He warned me (know's I camp) that they are going to start targeting RV's in the near future.
Maybe now is the near future.
By the way - I posted a warning on here and was chastised for it.

Any vehicle over 10,000 lbs, being used for business, must have a DOT number. It is a federal law. Does not matter if the vehicle leaves state or not. Maybe they were checking to see if he used the pickup for business. If being for used for business, that qualifies it for a DOT check. They can weight anyone they want. If it was in Pa., check your PUC laws.

Routinely, 'recreational vehicles' are not required to stop at DOT Weigh Stations... however, a DOT Officer or State Trooper could stop and weigh any vehicle they deem necessary.

I have to ask also, where was this? Was it Muhlenberg? I have not seen them do that before, but maybe being the holiday week they are checking them for now.
