i see tv commercials for people that owe thousands in back taxes for them to contact this lawyer and they can settle their claims for hardly nothing. example: owe 140,000 in back taxes and they settle it for 20,000. how do they do this. how do these deadbeats not pay taxes all these years and then get away with hardly owing anything when the honest person pays full boat of their taxes for years years. something isn't right here.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in
a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside,
thoroughly used up, totally worn out, loudly proclaiming---WOW WHAT A
RIDE!!!

Actually, it is a perfectly legitimate way to pay past IRS bills and become
current and a real taxpayer again.
I've done it for clients.
It's called "Offer in Compromise" and has been around for many, many years.
There are caveats, such as you have to file on time and pay your taxes due
for the following 5 years, as part of the contract.
It actually works, and the people generally aren't "deadbeats".

Sometimes what you "owe" has very little to do with the tax that is or was due. Penalties and interest can add up to amounts that would be impossible to pay.

One year, I failed to file a local/city tax form for earnings I had from an auction I conducted in that city. A year later I received a "tax bill" for $5,000. When I called the city revenue office, I found out the actual tax was only $50.00 based on what I earned in their city. They estimated my earnings and the tax and sent the bill. When all was said and done I paid the $50.00 and received a paid in full receipt.

If I had hired an attorney to help me and if he ended up with the same results, I guess he could claim he saved me $4,950.
