Good thing I've got a B...
A group of retirees from the Piedmont are controlling my nearby BRP campgound at Doughton Park and I think it's unfair to the casual traveler and weekender.
I emailed my complaint to the NPS and got this response today:

"Our present camping regulation on the Blue Ridge Parkway states "Between May 1 and October 31 camping is limited to a maximum of 21 consecutive days in any one developed campground. For years our camping limit was 21 cumulative days in one campground for the season."...

I was able to squeeze my B into the tenter section this time but most of the sites aren't very level. Is anyone else facing a similar situation around the country?

These are 25 RV non-reservable sites. One of the "residents" I spoke with said, "For $8 per night up here, it doesn't pay to run the AC at home."
I can't imagine the NPS intended this to happen. But here we are...
Don't bank on a decent site at Doughton Park this summer.
Jay
PS It was at least 10F cooler at the CG than in the Piedmont.

The As and Cs are parking because they can't afford to move around.

Most state parks in the upper midwest have a 14 day limit and most all Minnesota state parks have to be reserved almost 90 days in advance for a Friday or Saturday spot in the northern part of the state and Minnesota has a whopping 93 state parks. Primitive state forests and national forests spots are easier to find and many are quite nice but electrical sites, showers, plumbing, etc. are very rare to almost non-existent.

Unlike some other states, none of the parks, state or national, in North Carolina have electric or water hookups. At least, none we have seen. Something to remember if planning on camping here.

Maybe, but these folks have been squatting for many years.

Stone Mt. State Park, northwest of Elkin, opened a water/electric section two summers ago.

I'm confused. How can they have been squatting for years if there is a 21 day limit per your original entry? Do they just play musical spaces?

One day you also will get to retire. Currently we are traveling in our B and if we get to a place we like we may stay a week or two. We have done it before, you don't have to have an A.
