My wife and I are signing papers on a 2009 Four Winds Magellan 34B class A motorhome with all available factory options and upgrades except full body paint. We wanted to stay under $100K given our budget as a young couple (26 & 30), and negotiated this one down to just under $95K. The dealer sheet lists the motorhome at a MSRP of $126K, so I guess we're getting a fair deal. We had them throw in a dolly with disc brakes at no charge since they wouldn't go any lower on the price.

I've read countless FAQs about checking this and that. We got a fair interest rate given the market using information from the FAQs about preferred lenders. I think we're ready to go through the PDI in a meticulous fashion, but if anyone has any advice for a newbie who has never owned any type of motorhome or trailer before and has only camped in a trailer a handful of times in his life, what would it be?

When you find yourself rushed, or in a hurry, take time to slow down and make the right decision. Whether it be in the PDI or in the middle of the road. When you are rushed you are more likely to tear something up or make a bad decision.

I found with our walk through the guy who was going through everything with us was more of a distraction than a help. I asked him to let us be for a while so we could go through everything and I would go find him when I was ready. I totally agree with MS Bowhunter above.

Sweet...MoHo

Check here

I hope you saved a little cash for fuel. It's on everyone mind lately. Have fun start out slow. Take a few trips down wide roads the go for some of the smaller ones. And watch out for trees.

Cheers

Different dealer, but yes, that's the same unit - 'cept colors are darker. Yeah, the price of fuel is insane, but this still beats renting a hotel when you look at the number of trips we take per year and the fact that we take roughly 8 people total on each trip.

Simple... please learn to drive it in your neighborhood before going out on the roads. Nothing personal. But I am tired of newbees that go out and buy something too big for their britches just cause they have the money. They tend to endanger others on the road because they have no clue about just what they have under their control. Or in so many
cases, lack there of. See I worry when someone with no experince towing something jumps into a big rig of some kind. I tend to have more respect for those who have gone up the ladder so to speak. i.e.: pop up,trailer, 5er or MH of some type. Remember this. That rig is somewhere around 18k to 21k lbs. It don't handle like your SUV and it sure as heck don't stop on a dime.
Just my opinion, but you did ask.
