Hello everyone. I am a newbie owner of a toy hauler and am looking for some advice. Is it ok to run the refrigerator off propane while in tow? Our approximate travel time is about 5 hours and I am concerned about food, etc. in the fridge/freezer melting.
If it is ok, are there any safety precautions, etc. that should be strictly adhered to?
Any thoughts/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I turn mine on 24 hours before departure to get it cold and run it while moving. I have a deisel but if you have gas I would tunr of refer before fueling.

I have always used my refrigerator when traveling. The caveat is as said, turn it off when at a gas station 100% of the time. Put a sticker on the face of your fuel guage to remind you, or on your fuel door.

Yes you can. And now comes the 'but'. To keep from doing damage over time the trailer should be level when you are hitched up. Plan on shutting the propane tanks off while fueling or going through tunnels.

This topic comes up pretty often so also do a search so you understand the big picture.
You can, and many do run the fridge while towing. I have done it, but you don't always need to. As long as you keep the door closed you shouldn't have any food spoilage with in 5 hours. I've gone 8 hours with ours and the ice cream was still frozen solid and the adult beverages were still cold upon arrival.
If you do run it while on the road you should turn it off when pulling into a gas station. The potential exists for gas vapors to reach the outside flame on the fridge and ignite. This would make for a very bad day for you as you can well imagine.

I have a plug in at my house so my fridge never gets turned off. I turn the propane one before I unplug from the house. I have never been thru a tunnel that requires me to turn it off, but I know there out there. I see no reason to turn it off while refueling. It is a long ways away from the nozzle. If that was a problem, the guy pulling in next to me while fueling would be just as bad till he turned off his engine.

I would turn it off even if you have a diesel. The idiot next to you may spray gas and I would not want to be the RV that starts a fire at a gas pump. Saw this happen once and it was not pretty. Suggest turning off before you enter the gas islands.
