Myself, I just keep waiting until it gets easier to book a campsite at Yosemite..
BTW, just got back from a 2500 mile loop to Valley of fire, Grand Canyon, Arches, Canyonlands, Goblin Valley, Utah lake. Still way cheaper than Hotels and eating out.

SO; you don't feel someone is stealing from you?
If Electricity was doubled during the summer an AZ you would have to pay for it or roast in your own home. Would you like it???
Do you feel that doubling the price of fuel is justified?
No I don't like the fact that I'm being r@ped on my electric cuz they can...so, thank god it's being deregulated...nationwide...
What am I doing about it??? Making more money...most whiners are too busy making excuses instead of getting busy.
wayne_tw wrote: I agree with the OP about people living at the very edge of their incomes, and then when an unexpected rise in costs, they are out of business. I lived at 65% of my take home income all my life, and then retired at 54!!! How many can say that????
Can't say that "yet"...but I'm working towards beating you...
I'm retired, but I still work because I can't stand not doing nothing. Gas prices are up, but so are mine. I do what all the other business' do-raise the price. It all works out.........
"Looking at most of the people who post that they can't stay in RV parks and they can't afford fuel, tires and the rest.
It is simple, they spend so much on all the goodies. A 45 thousand dollar plus diesel 6 passager, 4x4 with all the goodies on it, a 5th wheel 1/3 longer than needed and twice a expense as they needed to do the job. Now they are all yelling, it cost so much for the fuel.
Now lets say you travel like us about 7000 miles in the summer. Lets take 10 mpg for the mileage, and take three years ago at $2 dollars per gal. now it is $4.50. So the old and new number for gal is 700 gals. time two dollars or $1400 dollars, now at $4.50 it is $3150. or $1750. more for this summer.
Now remember you could have bought a pickup for $20,000 less than you did, and a 5th wheel or even a nice travel trailer for $30,000 less. Take $50,000 x 8 percent interest, that is $4000 dollar per year you could have spend on fuel and had $2300 dollars left over for Rv Parks, steaks and beer. I see the answer, what is the problem. Is this another subprime problem in ones life. "
HUH???? Sorry, but I fail to understand your question or point... Fuel cost is the issue and here is why I feel this way..
Example 1 - The campground we stayed at last year cost went up 20.00 a night. Why, they say increased costs related to fuel. Over a 5 day stay that is 100.00. No much but....
Example 2 - Many people who commute for a living have to bear the increase cost of fuel in their daily life. They have less to spend on vacation and Rving. For people who have corp. jobs, do you think they got an increase that supports the add fuel cost? My guess, NO.
Example 3 - Food (along with other costs) have increased. Family costs have gone up.. The list goes on... I have seen an increase in propane, which I need for my rig... Another 7% add-ons... Again, not much but add it all up.
People have to make a decision. Rv or not, down size or not..
Change is hard to accept when it is as drastic as what has happen to the cost of fuel. Adjustments and changes need to be made until we get used to such a drastic change that has impacted almost everyone. Things will get better, question is when and at what cost?
And all for no real reason sadly. These costs impact people in many ways, many are hurting... Seems kind of insensitive to just ask such a simple question to a complex issue.
Downsize? How do you do that when the rig you bought is worth little because few are willing to by it.... Truck, motorhomes, whatever... A DP around the corner has been for sale for over 10 months. NO LOOKERS!
RVing has been impacted, but the solution is not to downsize.
The fact is, when you add up all the little cost increases that have impacted many aspects of our lives, something has to give.
Fuel and the lack of a leadership in government has affected everyone in almost every way. Sadly (and I hope I'm wrong)this is only the begining..
BTW - I'm not in the yet where I have to make this decision, but I understand why things are the way they are... I deal with it every day with regards to my business. It is sad.
Doesn't really matter. I can afford it now, but maybe not later. Things change, and fuel continues to increase. Fuel will eventually squeeeze nearly everyone out of the RV industry. Put gas/diesel at $15 a gallon and see how many RVers say stop whining. Everyone has their limit, and most will eventually see their limit exceeded. Enjoy it while you can.
You spout off subprime and that all these people are operation outside of their means.
Last year I worked 2700hrs as a boilermaker. I was home for a week here and there but not that often. I made in excess of $100,000. This year, the refineries have simply stopped maintance. There is no work. I have been home for the last few months. Now I put back money for the times I don't work. I have somewhat of a seasonal job and know that you have to budget for the week or two you are off, but months? What was well within my means for the last several years has drastically changed. I purchased my tt and tv first and foremost as a work related item. I live in my tt while on jobs. I didn't over extend, I bought what I could live in and have my family along when they could. Now, it is cheaper to get a hotel than pull the tt for a few week job.
My father is on social sec due to health problems. Both sets of grandparents are on ss retirement. All are limited income. They worked all their lives paying into the ss program. Now they have to choose between fuel to get to the dr and prescriptions. One of the sets of grandparents scrimps so that once a week they can drive 100+ miles to Tulsa and back to hand out donated clothes to homeless people.
Now lets talk about another set of "whiners". Those that have lost their jobs due in one way or another to the fuel prices. What about all those folks working for car mfgers? Those folks working for the RV industry? Do you suppose some of them where working well within their means till their jobs just disappeared? Even if they where at the magical 65% of their incomes, when the incomes stopped, they where screwed.
Maybe times haven't hit you like the rest of America, or the world for that matter. You have been very lucky. There are a lot of people that work very hard for a living, that WHERE well within their means just a few months ago. They have just had everything pulled out from under them.
Go ahead, set on your high horse while others are struggling and act like they are finally gettin what they deserve. How dare any of them have camped next to you?
I think the base problem displayed here is a combo of stupid and unwillingness to see the situation as it is. Jobs have dried up in many areas and many are on fixed incomes. The folks who are reaping benefits from the raging oil prices no doubt have a big surprise comming. I suspect some folks did buy more that they should have, not all. There are many who are retired and planned and hoped to live a few years the RV way. Those plans are gone. Smarties who deride their situation will soon suffer as well.
