My husband and I travel between Fredericksburg/Llano and Grapevine alot. We prefer to take 35S to 84 (just south of Waco). 84 is a great road and will take you through Gatesville (wonderful county courthouse) and then Goldwaite, where you will pick up Rt 16. Rt 16 down through San Saba and Llano straight into Fredericksburg. Some of the prettiest country you will ever see! If you need an RV park, there are several on the way around Waco (I35 RV park, great pool and great cafe) and there is one on Rt 84 in Crawford.
In Llano the city park and I believe state park is nice, golf course, river access. As you go through over the Llano River on rt 16, look to your right (south west) at the river. Our acreage ( 1 1/5) is the beautiful pink granite beach you can see about 1/2 mile from the bridge!
Have a great time in Fredericksburg. Go to Opa's for some smoked beef tenderloin and Russelin' Robs to test all the sauces.

You got to Dallas on good Texas highways. They're good all over the state, even Fm and Ranch roads. Taking the lesser roads might take a little longer than I-35, that is if there isn't a wreck, breakdown or construction, one of which you can pretty well depend on. Get on 281 as far north as you can, just go and enjoy the scenery. The route BonnieWe suggested using Tx 16 is good also, very scenic.
The RV park you mentioned doesn't look like much. Lady Bird Municipal Park is the best deal in Fredericksburg. There's also a nice little park in Stonewall, Peach Pit/Orchard, something like that. If you like BarBQ check out Cranky Franks on US87S, especially their pork dishes. On your way south Marble Falls is a very nice area with plenty of parks and things to do.
Enjoy

Well you guys were right, excellent advice. Going to F'Burg I got off 35S south of Waco, just in time to see the traffic stop. Took the 340 loop to 84 then 16S into F'Burg. Awesome ride, no traffic, great scenery. Only got nervous one time at a RR underpass, that was 13 ft 6 inches low, but we made it with room to spare.
On the way back from San Ant. we took 281N, to 84E, to loop 340, to 35N, another great route, with little or no traffic.
That low RR overpass is in San Saba. I was scrunching down in my seat to make the RV feel lower when we went through there last month. We were farther South than F-burg but on our return we traveled through F-burg and took 281 all the way to Hico, then on 67 to I-35 before fighting our way through DFW traffic to home.
