I've got a nice Sony 36 inch Trinitron XBR that I was given in broken condition several years ago. I repaired it, and it's been an awesome television. One of the things I like(d) about it is that the speakers in it's audio system were pretty nice, and gave a nice full high-fidelity sound.

Well, I have a Digital Streams converter box (radio shack) connected up to it that I bought with one of my government coupons and am running it off a rooftop antenna. The setup works awesome! Well, a few days ago, I was watching a concert on a PBS channel, and I had the sound turned up pretty loud because it sounded awesome. Today, I noticed both of the speakers are rattling and buzzing...I blew the speakers in the television with the high fidelity sound the converter box delivers!

I guess to solve the problem I can go find myself a cheap stereo now to listen to the sound through, and run the audio cables over to that

The converter didn't blow your speakers -- time for a new TV or go to an electronic junk shop and pick up a couple of used speakers!

yep, I know the converter didn't blow the speakers...I did BUT...the audio quality out of the converter was so good, I was complelled to turn it up. I imagine the audio quality off of an analogue broadcast doesn't have the frequency response to damage the speakers, and thus was the reason why the speakers lasted as long as they did.

The problem came from traveling with a standard TV. The vibrations from being on the road finally got to it.

Sony XBRs were notorious for speaker problems. I know because I had one in the bedroom of our house and replaced the speakers twice. The good thing was that they were easy to replace since they were external to the TV.
