I hope somebody will have some suggestions on how to solve my dilemma. After draining my black tank, I always fill it up again with clean water and flush it out again. Well this weekend after flushing it out, I began to fill it up again, and being in a hurry I decided I needed something to put in the toilet hold the valve open. I think you probably know whats happens next. I put a can of shaving cream in the toilet and it fell in the black tank. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to get the can out. Trust me I dont think I will be doing this anymore. Thanks

Step 1: Drain the "fresh" water out of the tank.
Step 2: Check to see if the can came out. If not, go to Step 3.
Step 3: Check with a flash light to see if the can through the discharge valve, if so use a coat hanger to wiggle it out. If not, go to Step 4.
Step 4: Driver the trailer around the block once and repeat Step 3. If you got it then go to Step 5:
Step 5: Install a tank flushing system so that you won’t have to repeat these steps again.

How about one of the gadgets people use to pick up cans and trash with out bending over if it will go in the hole.
I am sure you need to shave by now and need that can.

If the shaving cream was partially empty, it may float, so you can fill the tank with clean water and then snake it back to the toilet with a coat hanger.
Then get yourself one of these!

If the can was metal a mechanics "magnetic pick up tool" might help you fish it out through the dump line (or the inlet, YUCK) if you can see the can...Just another idea.

If you have a strong magnet and access to the bottom, empty the tank and see if you can move the can around by putting the magnet on the underside of the tank, like the old time toy's. This might get it close to the open flush valve and you can try a magnet on a string to "fish" it out.
It'll make a whopper of a fish story

Just get a new can of shaving cream! Do you really want to use what fell down there? Are you that cheap - get over it!
Just kidding. I couldn't resist. I'd try a small strong magnet on a string. Drive around and I'll bet by the time you get back home you will have caught it.

You may have to access the can from the drain area and if the curves in our pipes are typical you'll probably have to unbolt the drain pipe from the black tank. If there's a flange there, I'm no where near my trailer.
First try should be out the same way it went in. A powerful magnet may work.
Next time hold the toilet open with one of these:

OK, I looked under my Roo 23SS and the sewage outlet from the tank is held in place with a rubber boot and large hose clamp.
I'd do this on the grass or pavement I could hose down a drain.
Looks like you can remove the outlet pipe from the tank and reach in with a hook or your hand and remove the shaving cream can. If you can't get your hand in there it's gonna cost you a dinner at Chez Expensive to get your wife to reach in there!
Good luck. It's at most unpleasant, but hardly dangerous. I'd certainly hose off outdoors before a good shower though.

(The extra red and white wires are for our heated tanks.)
