We are heading there around the 13th of July. The whole trip will take us about 2 weeks. We can't wait to go. Our plans are a little loose because we are waiting for the arrival of our new truck, F250 4-door. The old 150 with the extended cab got too small for the 10 year old to ride in for long trips. Anyway, we look forward to seeing pics when you get back!

Finally had some time to post a review and link to photos of our week camping-trip to the Mt. Rushmore/Deadwood, SD area.
We stayed in Custer,SD at the Big Pines CG while touring around Mt. Rushmore area. It is a very nice CG....and the bath house was the cleanest I have ever seen or used in a CG. And believe me...we have stayed at some nice CG while sightseeing areas around the country.
There is a playground and game room for the kids to enjoy, however no pool..if that is a 'must have' on your list.
The CG campsites area all set among lovely tall Pine trees--all have picnic tables and camp-fire grates. We stayed in the upper loop at site #39, right next to the bath house and had plenty of room between us and the other campsites. However, I did noticed that the campsites on the lower end of the lower loop were tight. So if possible try to avoid those. When we arrived on a Thurs...most of those lower end campsites were open. So I assumed those were given out to folks when most of the CG is already full. For tenters....this CG has a lovely area for tents. Very roomy indeed.
The owners are very friendly and helpful in every way....we would most certainly stay there again if we visit that area.

Thanks for the kind comments. We most certainly had a wonderful time. Even though the crowds at Mt. Rushmore Monument were horrible...we enjoyed all the fun events and ceremony they had for the 4th of July.

We are on our way back from our South Dakota trip right now. We are actually staying in a hotel, for the last 3 nights, because in Jackson Hole, WY our PUP decided not to PU anymore! We have to get it fixed when we get home. At least we were on our way home, and it didn't happen in the middle of out trip. Hoteling it on the way home is not so bad!

Thanks for sharing the pictures! What a great trip. On our recent trip to Mount Rushmore/Yellowstone we were only able to spend 2 nights in Custer SP and I can't wait until I can go back. There is soooo much to see and do in the area and it is beautiful! The main focus of our trip was Yellowstone and we could have used more time there as well - My Yellowstone/Rushmore trip report
