I've lived here in NC since 1987. DH was born here, yet neither of us has ever been to the NC coast. We would like to head that way. Help us pick a campground that we would like. We must have electric and water. We don't like crowded campgrounds where you're packed in like sardines. A clean bathhouse is a plus.

There are several OBX campgrounds. Emerald Isle has Holiday Travel Park, on the expensive side. Surf City, NC has a family campground. Good luck, wish we had more of a variety for coastal NC.

Small, family owned & operated, full hook-up's for HALF what the big campgrounds charge, you can't go wrong with Ocean Waves Campground located in Cape Hatteras area (Waves NC). Most of the campgrounds on Hatteras Island are lacking in tree's and mostly sand underfoot, this campground has several sites with some tree's and grassy sites.

We stayed at Ocean Waves Campground in Waves, NC - on the OBX between Hatteras and Nags Head. There are 3 good campgrounds in the area - Camp Hatteras and Cape Hattera KOA are the others - and they are all right in the middle of the OBX. It worked good for us because it allowed us to go South to Hattesas and Ocracoke, or North to Nags Head, Jockey's Ridge and Kill Devil Hills... 30 to 45 minutes in either direction.

Since you have 2 kids, Camp Hatteras or the KOA may be a better pick because they have more family activites.

It's true NC is severly beachfront CG challenged. There is only one from SC to the OBX. Surf City. Very small, very quiet. There are as mentioned several on the OBX. But for many of us. The OBX is a long way off. about 10 to 12 hours from here.

We are going to Frisco Woods CG located near Frisco NC (OBX).

website: www.outer-banks.com/friscowoods

We will be there July 17 for one week, can't tell you much about the CG now because we have never stayed there before. We got a site for one week for approx. $315.

We have stayed at the NP CG at Oregon Inlet and Frisco nice CGs but no hookups and cold showers. www.nps.gov/caha/index.htm

We also have stayed at Camp Hatteras CG but not for since they went to $81 plus per night. www.camphatteras.com

Was wondering if anyone has stayed at frisco woods. Thinking of going there or ocean waves next July for two weeks. Any info would be helpful. Thanks
