We have Barney, the 22 lb. Maine Coone kitty...he poops and pees a lot. We store his litter box in the shower but even cleaning it daily not only is there odor (even with litter deodorant) but the litter always gets everywhere. We just moved to a new site within this campground today and our new neighbor lady told me what a lady at a rally did with her litter box: She cut a hole through a step on her 5'er to the underbelly storage and put the litter box there - odor is gone cause it's underneath. We can't do that on our step, but have a wall that we could go through at the bottom. I'm wanting to do the same thing and we have just the space to do it. But if anyone's done it, did you use a 'doggy door' set up or what? Thanks for input...

I have one better than that for you. When we bought our new 5er we ordered an extra door for the cabinet under the stove. (I figured that if we ever trade it in we'd use it to replace the altered one.) Now here's what we did...I measured the opening in our at home covered litter box. Then I took off the door and and cut out and routered the right size hole in the door. To top it off I added some "L" trim to cap off the entry hole and viola. An out of site easy to access and easy to use cat bathroom. Oh yeah, I also put a Glade Stick-up inside and above the opening to keep any odor from exiting.Send me your e-mail address and I will send you the pic.
Hope this helps.

seen one that they turned a under body storage area into a cat room it had a door open to the inside of the trailer had the litter box /sleeping box food/ water down there and had a heavy mesh screen door inside the out side storage doors they could open the outside door and the cat could see out and get plenty of air from under the awning side of the trailer.

Oh, that is a cool idea - I like the screened area and place for the food. It's sorta in the way right now. So far, I think this is my best option. Thanks!

This still does not eleminate the litter everywhere and the fact that I have to move the litter box to shower daily. Pain in the A**. But thanks!

Our new fiver has a dirty clothes drop under the sink into a storage area. We put a ramp there and the cat can descend to use the litter.

We saw a fifth wheel a few weeks ago in Colorado Springs, that did the same thing. Very nice idea. When we walked by a couple of times, there was kitty, looking out his/her own screen door.

Wished we could give up our storage for our kitties, but since we are rving full time now, there is no way.

We travel with 3 cats and use a good clumping litter and a larger covered litter box, which fits fine behind one of our lazy boys. We have no odor problems at all. We do clean the litter box twice a day and always have..

The answer is simple. the next rv you buy is a toy hauler with a garage, put a cat door in the door between and Sylvester has his own house for food, water, outhouse and all. you can get a screen for the back then he has his own fresh air window to the world as well! Plus think of all the storage you have now! We have a toy hauler and no toys just our kids, two Blue Heelers, an older Aussie, and a new little Westie! Their house (when they aren't on our bed) is the garage and they LOVE it! Kind of like a heated and air conditioned condo for the pets!

Great idea. A $50,000 to $70,000 dollar litter box.
