Just got back from a great week camping at Lakewood campground in Myrtle Beach. We did have one problem though. My eleven year old son's bike was stolen on the second day. We hoped that it was taken by mistake, but it never was found. The campground didn't seem to care. One of the security guards told me that stolen bikes end up at one of the two campgrounds nearby. So one evening I went to Ocean Lakes campground to see if the bike was there. The guard there was not very helpful and told me they didn't have any bikes stolen or left behind. So I went to Pirate Land campground. This time I decided I would just ask to ride through their campground to take a look at the sites for next year. Which we where going to do anyway. While inside I would look for the bike. Well, guess what they would not even let me check out the campground. Well I know two campgrounds I will not be going to.

Did it get stolen from the campsite or was it at the pool or aracade or something? We have stayed here the last 15 years and I ain never had a problem with theft there. We will be there in a week and ahalf for vacation. It jsut urkes me of things like this ruining peoples vacations. Sorry to hear about the theft by the way.

We generally leave things out around the campsite but I always pass a cable lock around my bike. It is too easy for someone to "borrow" it and just leave it somewhere. Unfortunately, there are some out there who believe that they are entitled to use other people's things.
Locks don't do anything but keep honest people honest. Sometimes, that's all it takes. I'm sorry about your son's loss.

Leopards don't change their spots. Someone who will steal at home will steal in a campground. The trick is not to give them the opportunity. Lock everything down or put it away. It's a sad thing to say but it's the way things are.
Unless maybe it was a destitute camper who ran out of gas money and needed a cheap ride home.

Some folks pick the easiest spots to do their dirty work. They would take advantage of anyone, anytime, for anything. Don't let the jerks steal you joy.

Unfortunately, there will always be some jackholes out there, reason I keep all my stuff put away / locked up. Most times it looks like we just pulled in with a bare campsite

You know nine times out of ten you can count on other campers being there for you, and willing to keep and eye on your site. These are people just like you. People who love the outdoors and understand what camping is all about. And then there's that one out of ten who only cares about himself. He lets his kids run rampant yelling and screaming thru your site till all hours of the nite. his dog will bark excessivly, his stereo will thump till your head explodes and will help himself to what ever is not locked down. For these people I have a long cable and lock that I use on my bicycle, stove, propane tanks, and bbq.

I just figure they must have needed it more than me. I do use a cable when I remember. The bummer is no bike for the rest of the trip. Although I would be tempted to go right down to walmart and get a replacement. Probably better to let your son feel the pain and replace it later. One of life's lessons as kids grow up. Sorry for the trouble.

I have been to Myrtle Beach over 25 times. The last time I was there 3 years ago I had my brother drive my garage kept 2002 TransAm down so I could fly right after work and meet them. It wasn't 6 hours I was down there and parked at the mall at the end of the row and someone beat it for no reason with a golf club. Mall didn't care. It used to be fun there, traffic used to be light, and I grew up on the Pavillion. Now it's overcrowded, full of crime, and just not the same. I will never go back.
