Do you think is was a camper Or a Town kid/person?
Must have been an adult
I would hope if a kid brought a bike back to the camp site
that wasn't their's, the parents would at the very least
make him/her leave it at the office.
I have stayed at Pirate Land many times.
Don't you think the guard was only doing what he was told to do
not let every Tom Dick or Harry drive through the campsite?
I'm sorry your son lost his bike.

Sorry about your sons bike - hard lesson to learn on vacation. Have had a few things taken so I too use a couple of long cables threaded thru everything and locked -- wouldn't keep off real thieves but does keep 'borrowers' at bay. Also have had BIG cooler and other stuff taken out of NatPark bear-box -- invented my own lock for same --no more problem. Hope your next trip is a better one.

Sorry to hear about your sons bike.
Makes me think about locking up our bikes (which we never have done, I store them under the rear bunk out of plain view) Camping use to be where you didn't have to lock anything.

Families who camp together, stay together...
Dad
Mom
11yr old son- knows everything now...
5 yr old son- still sweet...
4 yr old daugher- turning me grey already...

I just put a big red X on my atlas over South Carolina. Thanks for the heads up!

Geez, don't paint the whole state with the same brush and, let me tell you, if you think it can't happen where you live you are WRONG. There are bad apples everywhere. Just in case you don't know, Pirateland is a private park in Myrtle Beach where they pack the campers in like sardines and there are folks from all over North America who stay there. No one knows if it is a local kid or not, speculation on the poster's part. It could be a couple of full-timers who travel from park to park all over the country stealing whatever they can to make some money at a local pawn shop! Folks need to lock their bikes up or risk having them stolen when they are around folks they don't know, simple as that. That holds true anywhere, not just in SC.

Oh yeah, according to another post above, you better put a big RED X over CALFORNIA and ALL National Parks, theives live there too!

Restricting access to campgrounds isn't such a bad thing. It keeps out shoppers. Some of the parks here will give you a 15 min pass during slow times so you can check out the park for future camping. I agree with the other posters, if you don't want it gone, lock it up. Times have changed, Once upon a time, we could tent camp in the North Georgia Mountains and leave our stuff at the tent in remote areas while we ran into town or hiked to a waterfall. Everything was always there when we returned. I wouldn't try this now. Very Sad.

So sorry you people have had these experiences. For the most part campers are honest people but you never know. Can't be too careful. We are probably too trusting. Our last trip we left a laptop, CDs DVDs and other stuff in the PUP when we went off shopping and such. Might have to rethink that in the future.
