I saved this a while back: Dear Consumer:

Thank you for asking about the use of Ultra CLOROX liquid bleach.

In case of an emergency, we recommend boiling water for 1 minute. When boiling is not possible, we recommend filtering water to let suspended particles settle out. Pour off the clear water and add Ultra CLOROX liquid bleach as follows:

1 teaspoon Ultra CLOROX bleach per 5 gallons water
16 drops Ultra CLOROX bleach per 1 gallon water
4 drops Ultra CLOROX bleach per 1 quart water

Wait 30 minutes. The water should have a slight chlorine odor. If not, repeat dose and wait 15 minutes, then sniff again. Use only Ultra CLOROX bleach, not a scented bleach.

I hope this information is helpful. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact us. Again, thank you for giving me this opportunity to discuss our product.

Sincerely,

You want to sanitize and I believe the correct amount is 1/4 cup to every 15 gallons.

Garry, for a 30 Gallon tank, you need one half cup of household bleach. Mix it with a gallon or two of water and dump into fresh water tank, then top off the tank with fresh water. If practical, take it for a trip around the ranch to shake it up. Then turn the pump on and run water through each faucet until you smell the bleach. Usually a quart of water will do. Run the hot water faucets until you have run enough water through to have filled the water heater with the bleach solution. Usually a 6 gallon tank, so this takes awhile. Once you have that bleach smell coming through the hot water faucet, go to each of the other faucets and just run them for a minute or so. Let the whole thing cook over nite. Then drain your system, and fill it up again with fresh water. Don't forget to drain the water heater too. If you get a lot of bleach taste and smell after draining it again, put a half cup of baking soda in a gallon of water and dump it into the tank and then fill it back up. Run it through the lines again like the bleach then let it set overnite. Dump it, fill up again and your good to go. Or, you could just invest in a really good water filter before you fill up! Good Luck!!

If you actually want to drink and use it and you are concerned about the quality, than Dancing Bear has your answer. My recipe is to sanitize the system and is meant to be drained and flushed after 4 to 24 hours.
