After an eight month search (mostly my fault kept changing my mind on what I wanted )I finally purchased an '01 36w Itasca Sunflyer.

I feel I got a good deal and I'm sure the owner felt he also got a good and fair deal. I ended up paying $1000 below low retail and also paid for a full inspection of engine and chassis. Owner and I split what few repairs were needed.

My husband wanted to work the price down a couple thousand more but after searching for so long and seeing some truly scary stuff out there this rig far surpassed anything out there for the age and condition.

I would definitely work the owner down to at least low retail as no finance company will lend much more and then you are looking at a larger cost coming out of pocket. If he doesn't come down walk as we found there were a lot of unrealistic owners sitting on rigs they were upside down on and trying to get "what they owed". Well I wasn't going to go into a rig and be upside down before I even drove off in it. Dealers are hurting and do not want to deal, worse than used car salesman. I only met one or two truly honest dealers who told me straight up they couldn't sell me a rig at low retail or if they could which rigs they were. They didn't waste my time and I didn't waste theirs.

I've got a 2006 Tiffin Allegro Bay 37DB which is priced around that of the Winnebago Adventurer 38, full body paint, etc. If I wanted to sell it I doubt I could get over $80K.

really?
this one just sold in the last day or so.

Low book is $39G and change. Sold for $19G and yes it needs some minor repair. Was a deal for someone who wanted a quality MH and was on a tight budget. Will probably have less than $25G in it when done.

I bought the same type deal. I will have far less than 1/2 low book in mine.

Of course we are all some what speculating and perhaps speaking without a lot of information. I know this for certain. I bought a nice 5th wheel trailer in 2005 and sold in Jan of this year. I lost about 50% of what I had in it. I currently own an old Bluebird wanderlodge which I paid $18,500 for and have invested about another $14,000 fixing up and restoring. About half of the $14,000 was have to do stuff the others was cosmetic. So my total investment is about $32,500. It's not going to be sold but I know realistically the market for these older BB wanderlodges is at exactly half of what it was two years ago. I might be able to get $20,000 out of my MH but I'd likely have to work to get it. This is typical for the BB'ds. I will tell you I know for a fact that you can buy a heck of a nice BB for under $100,000 and a very nice one for 50 to 75 any day of the week. I don't have my finger on the market for newer stuff but do have a brother in law who is a salesmen for a dealer and he reports that now is the time if you want a deal. The private sellers are likely harder pressed to move their stuff. As long as fuel cost are going up the prices will continue to drop. A seller has to decide when to cut it loose. It took me 7 months to sell my 5th wheel and in that seven months I only had TWO offers. Think its worth more in July then it was in January? Don't thinks so. So any offer is an offer and fair or not that is the reality.

That's odd, NADA does not list Tiffen as a choice?

Found it....listed under allegro.

Low retail $79K
Avg. retail $95K

Again I didn't use any options just the model but according to some on this thread that would be 50% below the low retail so your coach isn't worth more than 39.5K

That is the kind of deals people are informing others they should get in this market.....I'm sure you would sell for that price.......lol

My mistake...my premise was based on a one or two year old coach going for 50% of the low NADA retail number. The coach you show in the link is 12 years old!!! The OP in this thread was talking about a 2006 coach. My point was I can't find a one or two year old coach at that kind of discount below low retail. LOTS AND LOTS of deals out there on 10+ year old coaches.......and lots of headaches dealing with the problems that will pop up on every trip.

BTW this was also listed on the add:

Estimated Repairs: Mild wear to wood cabinetry. Entry door trim is dented. upholstery shows signs of wear. Damage to left rear (5' crack in fiberglass). Scrape to right rear. Leak to air bag suspension (RV leans when parked). Check engine light is on.

Based on that they may have over paid......LOL

JT Harley, yes, there is some repair needed to the coach I listed as I stated in my post referencing the link. But for a 12 yr. old Beaver I personally would not have a problem giving the price and doing the minor repairs. But that's just me.

and now I will apologize to you, my mistake, I thought we were talking across the board and didn't realize we were speaking strictly of coaches just a year or two old. I'll butt out now. My apologies.

No apology necessary that is the magic of the boards, everyone's opinion is valid and important. I should have explained that I was trying to stay within the original posters request of what the best price would be for an '06. I think alot of the folks who commented on the 50% off deal where also looking across the spectrum and you are certainly right when you get out 8-10-12 years, I think the NADA "guidelines" don't really apply like they do on newer coaches. Too many variables.
