Originally was going to the Outer Banks this coming Tuesday, but, after deciding we just didn't want to drive that far this year, we were able to get, to us, one of the, if not the best site that is offered at Pipestem State Park in WV, with full hook-up for the size TV and 5er we're towing. Leave Sunday and will be there until the following Sunday.
On the topic of drunks and etc. on Holiday weekends, the DW and I are "picky" about where we stay over a Holiday, and for the past 15 years, we've not only spent a week or two before or after a Holiday, but have stayed at campgrounds through the Holiday's also. We have YET to have stayed at a campground in WV,NC,SC,TN and VA where there were drunks,(campgrounds we've stayed at have "quite hours" and no open containers of booze allowed at campsites),all that aside, we've seen no difference in camping over the holiday's as opposed to before or after, EXCEPT, the campground may not be as "full" before or after the holiday. Don't know where some of you folks go to put up with all that noisy and drinking, but I've never been to one of those campgrounds where that happened....or was even allowed.

Not this weekend however will head out on the 12th for a little over a week in the mountains around Creed and Lake City CO. Will be great to get away from the heat and don't usually like the "holiday" crowds any way.

You're right J R. We have been camping for about 40 years. We have been in one CG, Gulf Shores State Park, Gu;lf Shores, AL., where some young adults were camping two sites up from us. Got drunk, yelling, on top of the old bus they had for a camper. They were immediately escorted to the gate. We are in Jellystone now in Cherokee, NC. Haven't seen the first beer today. The campground is full. Everybody having a good time. The pavilion is right at the back of our MH.

Every time I read a post with this remark it just makes me laugh! i have been out for alot of holidays along with regular 1 and 2 week trips and have yet to see a difference!
Glad to see I wasnt the only one....
Guess you guys don't notice the huge crowds of drunks that are just out to party because hey, it's the holiday! and playing loud music until 2 am along with people that don't control their kids (more then normal) because it's the only weekend they camp a year and they don't know any better. I could go on and on.
No thanks, I'll enjoy the holiday at home having a BBQ with friends and then go camping the following weekend where the parks aren't nearly as full and the chances of having the twice a year campers who don't care next to me is much lower. Holidays are just no fun camping.
What does the drunks and the music have to do with you? Do your thing. Stay at home. Since it is a busy weekend, a lot of folks need your thinking, and there would be more sites open for people that want to enjoy a "holiday weekend."
What they have to do with me is they ruin it for everyone else camping and perhaps trying to actually sleep in the middle of the night. What a concept.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that uses that term. I first started using the term "amateur night" for New Years Eve, so I guess that makes us professional drinkers!
After nerly four weeks on the road, we scooted home to avoid the July 4th mayhem. But when we went to the grocery store to restock the pantry, the out-of-town crowds reminded us that the "zoo" is out there. The pictures they showed on TV of the crowds heading up I-70 out of Denver last night were amazing. We'll wait 'til Tuesday or Wednesday and maybe get a night or two of camping in then.
Our campsite backs up to the new pavilion in Jellystone Park, Cherokee, NC. Student Fusion from Rome, GA, held a block party couple nights ago. Kids of all ages had a good time.
Kids decorated their bikes for a ride thru the park with Yogi yesterday. I don't believe there was any drunks staggering around in the roadway. LOL

I believe you can clearly see, if you have read the thread, you are in a minority group though.
