hello, i have a atwood model g6a6 water heater in my motor home. lit the pilot today and the burner came on as it should. after a couple minutes it went out and blew out the pilot too. relit, and same thing. now it wont light at all. could it be the gas control valve or what should i try? the pilot did light again but went out before i turned the burner on even. thank you.

Link to Atwood Operating Manual.

On page 5 are some instructions for cleaning of the burner, etc. You may have spider webs in the burner tube since the burner went out and blew the pilot out.

You can also disconnect the thermocouple from the main valve and clean the connection - it is an electrical contact - and reconnect it. That sometimes is the problem.

The pilot should stay lit as long as you hold the reset - it bypasses the thermocouple input to the main gas valve to allow the pilot to be lit.

On some models, a "general purpose" thermocouple available at hardware stores, etc. will fit. Others, you may need to go to an RV dealer or an online RV seller to get the correct one.

it doesnt have a button to hold, just turn the knob to pilot, wait a min., and turn the knob to on. also, on the gas valve is a sticker that says "equiped with a single use shut off valve. if circuit is open, replace valve." how do i know if the circuit is open? i will try these suggestions and hope for the best. thanks
