One comment I would like to add - My wife and I are also new at trailering so we stick fairly close to a couple of other old hands at trailering - just in case we need any kind of assistance. One of them has a Dutchman and has been using it for over 20 years and he swears by it! Lots of TTs out there - some better than others, but it looks like this could be a good one - if you can adjust to the size of an 18 footer. That's always a question - hope it isn't a problem.

Well its bigger then my tent so I think it will be big enough, im sure when we have kids some day (im only 27) we will upgrade. Thats good to hear that he has had such good luck with his dutchmen. Going this saturday to see what the final cost will be and then decide to but it, which will most likely happen.

if i may suggest a great dealer in the Chicago area. House of Camping is a great family-run dealership in Bridgeview.
they carry a lot of trailers, including hybrids. their RV tech is very knowledgeable and thorough.
we drove all the way from Calif. to get a trailer there. they were competitive with RVWholesalers.com and were very helpful.
they would be a great place to go and ask question and look at some of their inventory. they have a website.

I believe that to get transmission temperature you have to tap into the transmission. There was a recent thread discussing exactly where to put the sensor, but I can't find it now.

The computer in my vehicle is already reading the transmission temperature. All I had to do is enter the correct code into the ScanGuage II and read it. The ScanGuage II website gives all the info.

Trans temp isn't part of the package. You have to buy extra parts and I bet have to install your own sensor and wiring to it. Why not just install the temp gauge if you are going to do all that? The readout on that thing is way to small for my liking. I can't believe a jet mechanic can't install a trans temp gauge.

Not true with my van. Just enter some codes and there it is. It is part of the X guage which is in all new ScanGuage II's. No extra parts required. I would imagine most all modern vehicles monitor transmission fluid temperature as part of the self diagnostic systems.
