We've done a lot of research before asking this question because we know that so many folks ask the same questions over and over, but we just want to make sure that we're not making a big mistake.
We're in the process of getting insurance quotes from AON and Progressive.
We'll be establishing residency in SD imminently as so many folks do.
This may seem like a dumb question, but...
When we're asked where our motorhome is garaged, we can put the SD zip code, right? Even 'though we'll be living in it here, there, and everywhere? Actually we'll be in AZ for the winter months.
I assume this is okay since insurance rates are part of the reason that folks use SD as their homebase.

When asked where your vehicle is garaged you use your SD address...however, do not use a P.O. Box. Most insurance companies will not accept it. We use a mailforwarding address which gives us a real street address. There are quite a few in SD, ie., Alternatives Resources, My Home Address, etc.
In all financial transactions, when asked our address, we provide our mailing address and say no more...don't offer information, and they ususally don't ask. As for vehicle insurance, I assume you're going to be fulltimers, so you should be getting fulltimer's insurance. Any insurance company which provides this type of insurance will know you are not "physically" garaging your vehicles at the address you provide...they deal with this situation everyday.

We thought we were okay given all that we've read, but when we put in "fulltiming" on the online quote forms (AON and Progressive) and it was asked where it was garaged it just threw us.
We've just filled out an application for MyDakotaAddress.com as their mailing rates seemed to be the best. We've also read here on the forum and folks do recommend them as well as others.
We're passing papers on our house in August, so we'll do our vehicle insurance a little bit down the road. Trying to get all organized while dealing with selling a vehicle and our house in MA has been a bit overwhelming. We don't know what we'd do without this forum!

We are here in Gillette Wyo. at a rally and will then go on to Rapid City S.D. next week. We also are changing our residency from California to S.D.
We will use Americas Mailbox and are also using AON. They are brokers and we will most likely go with Progressive. We are going to use Rapid City as our home because we will spend some time there this month and it's convenient for us at this time... Another benefit is, that county has no wheel tax.
We happened to sit at a table at the rally with the folks that run Americas Mailbox. I haven't heard any negatives about them and they will help us with our auto and rv license too.

Give the govt. in Pennington County another year and we'll have that too. It was just defeated a week or so ago, but...the idea is still on the books. Won't be long and that will be added. They were debating on the amount per wheel anywhere between a buck and 4.

They use the term "garaged" for lack of a better term. Don't worry about it.Your "home" will be SD #--- will be your street address
We even went to our home town once,to meet the neighbors,nice folks !
You probably know that you will have to go to SD to get your drivirs license.

We've spent quite some time researching vehicle insurance over the past couple of days. We've contacted AON and have gotten quotes from National Interstate and Progressive. I have to say I've been a bit frustrated because we were very clear with the amounts we wanted. Our quotes came back with different amounts on each one, so comparing apples to apples has been an issue. We got revised quotes today and I'm about to take a look at them, but I know already that the agent didn't address a concern about the cost of our auto insurance. Grrrr. We'll plug away.
We did learn that we need to go to SD to get our licenses, so we'll do that this fall when all is settled with our home. By the way, I'm hoping that MA doesn't take issue with us using our licenses until then or worse yet if we were involved in a vehicle accident that the insurance company doesn't balk at our licenses being from a state other than SD.
Oh, always something to fret about. But, this sure beats the fretting about home ownership!!!!!!!
