We have a 2005 kz toyhauler that is 37 foot long. We are looking at
buying a 2008 dodge deisel 2 wheel dually to pull it with. Presently we pull it with a v10 dodge 2 wheel drive . We measured the height of the pickup box and it is 9 inches taller then what we are pulling it with now and have concerns that we will put the back end of the truck box into the bottom of the trailer when we crest a hill or go into a park. The 2008 measures 57 inches from the ground to the top of the box. Does anyone else pull with something like this and do you have problems and do you have plenty of clearance? Thanks

I have an 08 Dodge 3500 4x4 dually pulling 373 Fuzion. This rides level enough that I don't need to modifiy. We just put 4500 miles of towing on this with no abnormal tire wear. It does ride a little nose high but tire temps remain very close. Mileage pulling this is the same as a 5.9, but empty it is only 14.5. I am going to pull off the DPF. I would not mind being greeen except I will not pay $2,000 ++ a year to do so. This aside, the 6 speed auto tranny is the first one I do not feel I need to modifiy. This with the EB makes it an awesome machine towing or not and even makes the stock fuel mileage seem OK.I think Ford and GMC will have same fuel economy problems for emmisions but I am not sure. Cummins is the best IMHO and comes in a dodge wrapper. In reality any one MFG will give more miles than most will expect and you cannot go wrong with any choice.

You need 6" to 8" clearance betwen the truck bed rails and the the 5th wheel. If you don't have that much clearance there is a chance the bed rails will make contact with the trailer. I have over 6" clearance on my 37.5' Raptor and I mine has never made contact.

I'll bet it will be okay. There are plenty of people hauling these trailers with Dodge trucks.

Hope that was what you were asking about.

It will all depend on the trailer height. Did it come with flipped axles? Did it come with KZ's riser kit?
I hauled my KZ TH with a 06' Dodge Mega Cab that had 57" to the top of the bed rails and I hit twice.
Check the trailers underside on level ground and back into the clearance numbers.
You'll be real happy with the Dodge, there great trucks. As far as fuel milages go's I hear the 08' 6.7 Cummins it getting about the same as the Fords while towing. I just got back from a 1000 mile trip and I got around 10-10.5mpg while towing.

What is the difference in bed height between the V-10 Dodge and the '08? After all, the hitch sits in the bed and the kingpin sits on the hitch. If the bed floor to bed rail distance is significantly different between the two trucks you might need to adjust the hitch or kingpin to obtain appropriate bed rail to trailer clearance.

I would be surprised if a stock 2WD (even a 3500) was too tall to tow a modern fifth wheel and keep it relatively level. I tow with a '08 Dodge 3500 4X4 SRW and have no problems - plus I still have some height adjustment left in my Reese 16K hitch.

I agree with Big Baldy...if it's not a 4x4, I can't fathom you having a problem with it.

I have the 4X4 SRW pulling our 30 Desert Fox I have 6 inches of clearance in the front and 5 1/2 by the tailgate I have taken it off road more often than not my storage lot has a steep angled driveway and I have never hit it comes pretty darn close at the storage lot. I was more comfortable at 8 inches but I was pretty nose high.
