DW and I are taking off about 4-5 days in a few weeks and would like to go to central Minnesota which is not far from we are in central ND. Just looking for RV parks that are well recommended by you folks. Just looking for some ideas and perhaps maybe a few things to see while we are there. Found some nice places online near Detroit Lakes and Park Rapids but more ideas from you who have been there.
Thanks in advance!!

Winter is not far off, the misery begins
I would recommend Itasca state park, You can rent bikes and canoes in the park. They also have some great hiking trails. It's Minnesota and the mosquitoes come free of charge so don't forget the bug spray.
You may want to make reservations, I don't know how crowded the parks are this year.

Check this place out: http://www.mnisland.com/index.html. It's been 18 years since I was there, but it was AWESOME. The "causeway" is a little freaky, but it was well worth it!

In the Brainerd area Don & Mayvas row Wing Lake Campground is nice. Full hook ups, pool on the lake and close to brainerd attractions. I will second Itasca State Park very nice and plenty to see/do
Depending on the type of camping you want to do. Itasca State park is a great place, if you can't get in there maybe try the Itasca Campgrounds, it's close to the State park also. The Bemidji KOA is nice place too.

We enjoy the Minnesota State Parks. If you arrive on any day except Friday or Saturday, you are almost guaranteed a site (1/3 are non-reservable). Itasca is wonderful. But so is Lake Bemidji, Father Hennipen, and Millac Lake Kaitho. We enjoy all of them - we are into hiking, listening to rangers lead seminars, going geocaching, etc.
