I don't know which is the better coach or even if one is better than the other. This is why I am asking the guys in the know and been around owners of both. The Allegro is attractive to me because Red Bay, AL is not far from me. From what I have read, both Newmar and Tiffin have a good reputation of taking good care of their customers.

One is a top end coach, while the other is more of an entry level coach. Allegro Bus being the top end coach, Newmars coach an entry level for the Newmar brand. And like somebody else posted Newmar is in financial problems with the lack of sales and the reduction of forces by almost 50%.

I know the Bus has a side radiator, not sure about the KS. But a side radiator would be the only way to go for me.

Had the Bus been on a Spartan chassis in 04, I would not own our Dutch Star today.

With Tiffin's past record of taking care of cutomers even after the warranty has run out. Then reading lately about Newmar owners getting told they are on their own the day the warranty runs out.

Our trip to camp Newmar in April 07 for warranty work due to our warranty to expire in May of 07, they refused to fix because they were not on my list when we made the appointment. I explained they broke on our trip to the factory, but they refused to repair.
Newmar makes a good product for the money. But Tiffin customer service is one of a kind.

OK! Let me refrain on the financial problem. All RV companies are having some hard times.
But getting back to the difference between the Allegro Bus and the Newmar coach is that one is at a higher level then the other. I believe the Allegro Bus is second highest for Tiffin, Zephyr being the highest and with Newmar coach in question, it is way in the bottom of the list for Newmar coaches.

You will still have factory support from Tiffin plus you can order parts from them and bypass the dealer. Tiffin has tightened up a little on their out of warranty work in the last year or two but it is still way ahead of most of the others. They will still fix most construction related problems at no charge but when I bought my first Tiffin they fixed everything no matter how large or small at no charge. I backed into something while at the factory and punched a small hole in the rear cap, they paid to have that fixed even tho it was 2 years out of warranty and my fault. No one else will do that.

Just a slight correction. The Ventana is Newmar's lowest priced diesel pusher.

I could be wrong, but I thought the first year of the Ventana was 2006, and we're talking about 2004 models here, right?

Yes, we are talking 04 units. And thanks to everyone for their input. This makes learning a pleasant experience.

No, not a brand war. Just wondering why an 04 Allegro Bus, 40', DP on NADA shows low retail as $121.3k and the Kountry Star, 40', DP shows low retail as $97.4k. These coaches were equiped simliarly. Is there really that much difference?

JD

I am a little biased towards Newmar but Tiffin was the only other coach on our shopping list in that general price range when we bought so I really do like both manufacturers.

You are looking at a difference of 25 grand. That is a lot of money in the price range you are considering. I think both coaches would probably serve you equally well if you liked both floorplans equally. You can buy a lot of diesel fuel and pay for a lot of travel with 25 grand. If you are doing any financing, the 25 grand difference grows substantially.

If I liked both pretty much equal then I would keep the 25 grand in my pocket and take the KS. A 2004 Kountry Star is a very good solid product and head and shoulders above most coaches of equal pricing.
