Well we finally got our US government stimulus check. I had heard something about this previously and just verified it yesterday.
If we take our stimulus check to Kmart and purchase a gift card with it the nice people at the store will add 10%. So for a $1,200 check we can buy a $1,320 gift card. The DW is wanting to buy a new refrigerator and loves Sears appliances. Kmart is about a mile from our house.
In case you don't already know Sears and Kmart merged and Kmart now sells Kenmore appliances and Craftsman tools.
Sounds like a sweet deal and I also hear that Walmart and some other stores are offering similar deals. Don't know for sure, I haven't checked. Maybe this will appeal to others that haven't cashed their checks yet.

We did not have that option, ours was direct deposited into our checking account like our Federal refund check. It may be a sweet deal if you get a paper check to cash....

Yep, ours too was a direct deposit to our bank account. Pretty nice deal though.

I guess if you file electronically you don't get a check.
I file the old fashioned way, and I always intentionally owe additional tax on April 15. It just doesn't sit well with me to make a taxfree loan to Uncle Sam year after year.

It's only a great deal if what you want you can get at the store offering it. We opted to put half towards our vehicle tags and the other half in our vacation fund. Wish the bank offered that option! 10% bonus on your deposit!

From reading some of your posts I know you are a responsible Dave Ramsey follower too. I think you've got this well thought out and will be fine.I would love to get a new refer for my sticks 'n bricks but am riding it out with my 22 year old Westinghouse from Sam's Discount Club for the time being. Best wishes......

We are right now in times of big bargains. I think 10% is very low discount for major purchase. I placed bigger order at Home Depot and special pricing gave me 22% discount in 1 day and I could charge it on their credit card, that has 6 month no payment, no interest credit line.
Shop around if you are bargain hunter.
